This week’s SmackDown started as footage from this week’s Monday Night RAW was shown where Paul Heyman and the new WWE champion Brock Lesnar appeared teamed up once again. They also opened the show of Monday night RAW this week. Lesnar and Heyman also teased Roman Reigns on his promo.
The WWE Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns came out to the arena. He said that he would like to do a lot of things now and he would want to meet a lot of people. But he did not want to meet two people and they were Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman.
WWE Smackdown 07.01.2022 Results & Ratings
To surprise everyone, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman came out to the arena. Lesnar mimicked Paul Heyman while introducing himself as the WWE Champion. He then proposed a champion vs champion match.
After that a little bromance type of thing happened between Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns. It was a little confusing to see Roman Reigns still had feelings of for Paul Heyman. At the end, Reigns hit Brock Lesnar with the Superman Punch and left.
Match 1 – Rick Boogs defeated Sami Zayn
The match was booked for around four minutes and there was nothing special about it except the Johnny Knoxville’s interference at the end of the match. Boogs pinned Zayn with a roll up after Nakamura created a distraction for Zayn
WWE SmackDown Women’s champion Charlotte Flair came out to the arena. She cut a promo on the Women’s Royal Rumble match and a footage promoting the women’s Royal Rumble match was shown where at least 19 wrestlers who would be completing into the Royal Rumble match was announced including some of the biggest Legends.
The biggest surprise was the Impact Women’s champion Mickie James had been announced that she would be completing in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. Pat McAfee even address her as the Impact Women’s champion. This is the first time in history that WWE is working with Impact Wrestling.
Charlotte Flair also announced that she would be participating in the Women’s Royal Rumble match as well. Naomi interrupted her. She Challenged in a title match and as Charlotte disagreed to give the title shot, she it her right into the face.
Match 2 – Charlotte Flair defeated Naomi in a non title match.
The match was quite good. It was booked for over twelve minutes and both women were really on top of their performances. Charlotte Flair pinned Naomi with Natural Selection finishing maneuver.
Happy Corbin came out to the arena and welcomed everyone to the Happy Talk. He first talked about what he did to Drew McIntyre at the day 1 pay per view event along with his Tag Team partner Madcap Moss. He then welcome to Drew McIntyre on the stage he was none other than Madcap Moss dressed as Drew. Moss did a great job mimicking Drew but he sounded more like Sheamus than Drew McIntyre.
Match 3 – Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss defeated the Viking Raiders
The match was booked for around four minutes and it was an average match. Raiders dominated most of the period of the match but ultimately Madcap Moss pinned Eric with Punchline Neck Breaker.
Match 4 – WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion The Usos defeated the New Day in a Street Fight to retain
It was an excellent match. It was booked for over twelve minutes and it was really fun. Both teams were on top of their game. At the end, the Usos hit a 3D on Kofi Kingston on a table, which now they call 1D, Jimmy Uso pinned Kofi Kingston to pick up the victory for his side. After the match, Seth Rollins visited Roman Reigns’ room clearly indicating himself to be the next no. 1 contender for the Universal title. The duo faced off as this week’s Smackdown went off air.
Overall it was a good show, it was a good bounce back from last two weeks to be honest. They tried to cover everything that was going on last week. But it also felt quite bad to see the current condition of SmackDown women’s roster. It is so weak but it seems it is nearly dying. We give it 2.5 stars out of 5.
