This week’s Smackdown was designed in the Old School style of the 90s and it was named Throwback edition of Smackdown. They showed footages from old Smackdown episodes throughout the show.
Roman Reigns came out to the arena. Paul Heyman said that they should pay tribute to Bryan’s career by ten bell ring. He made the sound of the bell by his mouth which was quite funny. Roman Reigns said that fans everyone should thank him since he gave everyone what they wanted, including Daniel Bryan.

Roman said all he wanted was everyone to acknowledge him. Bryan did not so they replaced him with someone who would acknowledge him. Jimmy Uso made his return. Good to see him back even more good to see Roman’s stable getting bigger.
Cesaro interrupted. He said that Daniel Bryan can never be replaced. Seth Rollins attacked him from behind. Officials came out to stop them. Theodor Long came out. He said that he was given by the power by Adam Pearce to run the show. So he said if Cesaro beat Seth Rollins he would get his opportunity for the Universal title at WrestleMania Backlash.
Match 1 – Cesaro defeated Seth Rollins
The match was booked for ten minutes and it was quite entertaining. At the end, Seth fought with the Uso brothers which led Cesaro to pick up the victory with a Neutralizer. Seth was attacked by Jimmy Uso outside which referee did not see.
Backstage Seth was seen really angry in front of Roman Reigns and complaining about Jimmy’s interference. Roman said that he would take care of the situation. Seth said if he did not then Seth would.
Backstage Sami Zayn met Teddy Long and Sonya Deville. Sami asked for a IC title match. Teddy said he had a better idea and booked a ten man tag team match.
Backstage Roman Reigns condemned Jimmy Uso for messing up the match between Cesaro and Seth Rollins. Jimmy said that he would not allow Roman to talk to him like he did with Jey. He also said that he is not anyone’s b**ch.
Match 2 – Carmella defeated Ruby Riott by submission
The match was booked for two minutes and this match showed that the women’s division is going ignorant again. Nothing much to talk about it.
Bayley was seen standing inside the ring. She was supposed to pay tribute to the previous women wrestlers. She talked about Alundra Blayze, Jacqueline, Lita, Trish Stratus, Ivory, Beth Phoenix, Molly Holly, and Bianca Belair. She talked about all of them then she said nobody was her level. She then mocked Bianca Belair.
Bianca Belair came out. Bianca started to explain herself and Bayley started laughing at her again like last week. Bianca attacked her, Bayley fought back and beat her down.
Match 3 – Dominik Mysterio defeated Dolph Ziggler
Pointless match which was booked for less than two minutes. Dominik pinned Dolph with a roll up.
Match 4 – Tamina defeated Reginald by DQ
They tried to book Tamina stronger through this match. But they just should have let Tamina pick a clean win out of this match.
Match 5 – King Corbin, Sami Zayn, Otis, Chad Gable, and WWE IC Champion Apollo Crews defeated Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, Big E and the Street Profits in a ten man tag team match.
The only special thing about this match was such a multi man tag matches are very uncommon nowadays. Good to see one after a long time. The match was entertaining though. King Corbin pinned Shinsuke Nakamura with the End of Days.
Roman Reigns came out to the arena with Jey Uso and Paul Heyman. Before Roman could addressed him, Jimmy Uso came out. Jimmy reminded Jey of his Hell in a Cell I Quit match with Roman. He reminded how he beat down both Usos. Roman said that he should move forward like they did.
Jimmy left the ring and was about to leave as Jey tried to convince him by going outside of the ring. Cesaro in the mean time attacked Roman Reigns. Jimmy and Jey tried to help out Roman but he beat them down both. Throwback Smackdown ended with Cesaro standing tall.
Overall, the week did a good job in building up feuds. But this throwback idea seemed pointless. It was just another normal week of Smackdown with some older graphical arts. We give it 1.5 stars out of five. We deduct the stars for not doing any justice to the idea of throwback.
