This week’s SmackDown started as footage from last week was known where Edge got injured during his match with Seth Rollins and was taken to the hospital. After the footage was shown, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns came out to the arena along with the Usos and Paul Heyman.
Roman Reigns demanded acknowledgment from the fans. Paul Heyman then talked about the greatness of Roman Reigns. He then talked about Finn Balor and Brock Lesnar one by one. He said that all of them are scared of Roman Reigns.
WWE Smackdown 17.09.2021 Results & Ratings
To surprise everyone the new WWE champion Big E entered the arena. He entered the ring and the fans chanted “You deserve it” chants. Before he could say anything Finn Balor came out to the arena. There was a tag team match that had been scheduled.
Match 1 – Finn Balor and Big E defeated The Usos
It was really a very good match to open things up for the night. The match went on for around eight minutes and it was enough to please the fans. Big E pinned Jimmy Uso with the Big Ending.
Match 2 – Rick Boogs defeated Robert Roode
Here is another match to promote Rick Boogs. And he is doing quite awesome. The match was quite short and it was totally dominated by Boogs. He defeated Roode with the Pump Handle Slam. After the match, Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez attacked Boogs and King Nakamura and beat them out. Crews then demanded his rematch for the Intercontinental championship.
Kevin Owens was scheduled to face Happy Corbin but the match could never happen as Corbin attacked Kevin during his entrance. He Chokeslammed him on the apron and knocked him out.
Seth Rollins came out to the arena. Last week after the kayfabe injury of Edge, it looks like Rollins would turn babyface but now it looks like that is not happening. He said last week he had one of the best matches of his career but what happened to Edge was scary.
He showed highlights of the match on the big screen. He said he was frustrated of people asking him why he did such a thing to Edge. He was not guilty of whatever he did last week. We believe the fan for whatever happened to Edge. He then said that he was not done with Edge yet. Once he made his come back he would like to challenge him again, if Edge could make it back.
Match 3 – Toni Storm and Liv Morgan defeated Carmella and Zelina Vega
Honestly the match was disgusting but it maybe was a good way to build up story line between the individuals. The match just started and Carmella left the ring saying her nose was broken. The referee counted them out and Liv Morgan challenged Carmella in a match at Extreme Rules.
Backstage Naomi expressed her frustration on Sonya Deville for not getting a match yet in SmackDown. She said one way or another she would get her match soon. This may be a potential indication towards an in ring return of Sonya Deville.
Match 4 – Sami Zayn defeated Dominik Mysterio
This was Sami’s third victory on Dominik in a row. The match was short but it was good. There are two potential indications, the first one might be a potential father vs son feud. And the next one may be a push for Sami Zayn.
WWE Hall of Famer Kane entered the arena. It really felt good to see him back. He welcomed Bianca Belair to the arena for her homecoming celebrations. Kane was the host. Kane honoured Bianca with The Key of Knox County. Bianca said she was proud of herself.
Her celebrations were inturupted by Becky Lynch. She mocked Bianca for everything. Bianca returned the favour by saying she did not go here. After a little arguement, Bianca attempted to hit the Kiss of Death, Becky countered and nailed her with the Book End, which in this case was being addressed as the Manhandle Slam. Becky Lynch celebrated with the title as this week’s SmackDown went off air.
Overall, it was a good week of Smackdown. A lot of things were happening where they tried to touch all the ongoing storylines. The matches will not as good as expected but the segments were fun. The return of Kane was also fun to see. We give it 3 stars out 5.
