On the October 28 episode of WWE Smackdown, Emma made a grand return to WWE after a gap of more than five long years. The veteran Superstar answered the Open Challenge issued by Ronda Rousey over the SmackDown Women’s Title. Coming out with a remixed version of her old theme song, she received quite a huge reaction from the crowd who were mostly positive.
The outing on WWE Smackdown saw Emma doing her best to offer tough competition to Ronda Rousey. Although Emma ended up tapping out to Rousey’s Armbar, Rousey had to utilize some underhanded tactics to get the better of her mystery opponent by raking her into the eyes. This finish to the match also solidified Rousey’s current heel turn.

Moving on Emma can certainly expect to have more shots to the WWE Smackdown women’s title as she’s officially been included in the blue brand roster as seen on the WWE’s official website. In an update from Fightful’s paywall, WWE didn’t attempt to hide Emma backstage before her return, unlike the other big returns. The report also noted that the WWE officials didn’t keep Shinsuke Nakamura’s return a secret on that night, either.

Emma’s WWE Smackdown return was already broken by sources
Heading into the October 28 episode of WWE Smackdown, a report from PWInsider confirmed that Emma would be the one to answer Rousey’s Open Challenge. This came after Emma officially became a free agent in July after wrapping up her three-year tenure with IMPACT Wrestling starting in 2019. She became a one-time Knockout Tag Team Champion during her stint with IMPACT.
There were speculations of Emma returning to WWE but several reports suggested her future in pro wrestling was still in jeopardy. But her status was ultimately solidified through her WWE Smackdown return. Prior to the latest appearance, she last competed on WWE TV on the October 23, 2017, edition of Raw where she lost to Asuka.
Following her return, Emma was featured in WWE digital exclusive backstage interview on WWE Smackdown. She mentioned how she waited for five years to come home to WWE,
“Can’t tell you how good it feels to be back. I waited five years for tonight … five years to make sure that I’m never forgotten again. And now, I know exactly what I have to do to be the champion.”
