WWE: Smackdown May 23, 2017 - Results 1

The show started as a number of bikes arrived in the arena followed by a couple of cars. The Singh Brothers came out from the first car and The new WWE champion Jinder Mahal came out from the back one. The fans booed them, thoroughly.

The commissioner of Smackdown Live Shane McMahon came out to the arena. The Money in the Bank briefcase was shown hanging the ring. He announced that Randy Orton would challenge Jinder Mahal for the WWE championship at the next Smackdown Live pay per view event Money in the Bank.

Next, he announced that five superstars would be competing for the Money in the Bank ladder match this year. He introduced the fans to the participants; first came out AJ Styles, followed by Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler and the United States champion Kevin Owens.

As Owens was heading towards the ring, Shane told that Owens was not one of the participants. He welcomed the fifth participant who turned out to be Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura’s entrance is always fun to watch.

Owens interrupted and said he defeated AJ Styles at Backlash, still why would he not be in the MITB match? It should be Owens, not AJ. Shane announced that MITB would now be a six man match where Owens would be a part of it too. They kept arguing with each other, then AJ cut a very good promo. A superb segment to kick off the show. Shane McMahon announced a rematch from Backlash between Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin, and an epic tag team match where Ziggler and Owens would be on one side and Nakamura and AJ Styles would be on the other side.

Match 1 – The Welcoming Committee (Natalya and Carmella) vs. Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch

Good women’s tag team action, it was pretty enjoyable to watch. All the four women played their part well. Becky Lynch made Carmella submit with the Dis-Arm-Her submission manoeuvre. Good to see Becky fixed her hair.

Match 2 – Baron Corbin vs. Sami Zayn

The match did not even go on for one minute as Sami Zayn pinned Corbin with a quick roll up pin. It was a big shock as everyone was expecting a good contest. After the match, Corbin attacked Sami and beat him down badly.

Winner – Sami Zayn

Breezango then met Shane McMahon backstage, as they claimed it would be the final case of the fashion police. They attempted to withdraw their stuff. Shane McMahon said that they proved themselves already and they belonged here. And they both would face each of the Usos in singles competition.

Jinder Mahal’s championship win celebration was next. The whole ring was decorated in Indian style. The celebration started with a group of dancers dancing traditional bhangra. The Singh Brothers came out first. Next, they welcomed the new WWE champion, Jinder Mahal.

Mahal said that they could hate him as much as they could but it could not change the fact that he is the WWE champion. He cut a promo which was similar to his previous promos. Looked like he caught a cold. The celebration ended with fireworks.

Match 4 – WWE Smackdown Tag Team champion Jey Uso vs. Tyler Breeze

The match started as Jey took a mic and said they already beat them, so didn’t deserve it anymore. Fandango distracted Jey with a water gun from his back, Tyler quickly rolled him into a quick roll up pin victory.

Winner – Tyler Breeze

Match 5 – WWE Smackdown Tag Team champion Jimmy Uso vs. Fandango

The match was booked in the similar fashion of the previous one. Tyler Breeze this time created a distraction and Fandango pinned Jimmy with the roll up pin.

After the match, Breezango wanted a tag team championship rematch. The Usos were so mad at them that they wanted to grant it to them instantly. The referee consulted with Shane McMahon on phone, and he granted it.

Match 6 – WWE Smackdown Tag Team championship – The Usos vs. Breezango

This one was finally a good match. It was booked for seven minutes. At the end, Jimmy Uso attempted a super plex on Fandango, Fandango blocked it and pushed him back. In the meantime, Jey got the tag from Jimmy which Fandango did not notice. Fandango hit a leg drop on Jimmy as Jey quickly hit the frog splash on Fandango and pinned him.

Winners – The Usos, still champion.

Backstage all five women except Naomi argued, as they all wanted a Women’s title shot. Shane McMahon made a fatal five-way match next week where the winner would meet Naomi for the title.
