Rey Mysterio was one of the headliners of this week’s WWE Smackdown who’s also become a permanent member of the blue brand. Not only that but he’s also earned an opportunity to the Intercontinental Championship in the near future.
This week’s Smackdown took place at the Smoothie King Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana where Rey Mysterio made a surprise appearance on the show. He was seen talking to current WWE head honcho Triple H in the backstage area about reaching the ‘Breaking Point’ of his career. This was due to the fact that Dominik was putting up mental trauma by attacking him on a regular basis. It continued during the post-Extreme Rules episode of WWE Raw, as well.

During the conversation with Triple H, Rey Mysterio stated how he will never fight his son and said that he wanted to quit the company. The Game thankfully had a better idea to prohibit the 47-year-old superstar from quitting the business he loves so much.
Shortly after this segment on Smackdown, it was announced that the “Master of 619 had struck a deal with Triple H” and that he’s been officially moved to the blue brand roster from Raw.

Rey Mysterio got a championship shot on Smackdown
WWE then also announced him as the last-minute replacement for injured Karrion Kross in a Fatal-4-Way Match to determine the next challenger to GUNTHER’s intercontinental title. Kross was attacked by Drew McIntyre in the opening segment of the show to get injured in a kayfabe way.
Moving on, in the final match of Smackdown, Rey Mysterio picked up a win in the Fatal-4-Way also featuring Sheamus, Ricochet, and Solo Sikoa to become the new Number-One Contender for the Intercontinental Championship.
As The Brawling Brutes and The Usos brawled at ringside, Rey nailed a 619 before hitting the Eddie Guerrero-tribute Frogsplash to get the win. It’s yet to be announced when GUNTHER will give the high-flying superstar his title match.
For the past several weeks on Raw, Judgment Day’s Finn Balor, Damian Priest, Dominik, and Ripley have been engaged in a feud with Rey Mysterio and WWE Hall of Famer Edge. But now, AJ Styles and The Good Brothers – Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson have entered the scene to take care of the heel faction. Hence, it makes all the sense that the biggest little man in WWE history was traded to Smackdown.
