A new WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion was crowned during the Money in the Bank 2022 event, last weekend. Liv Morgan has become the champion on a night that turned out to be the biggest of her career. Not only did she win the Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match but also she cashed in the contract on the same night.

Originally, Ronda Rousey successfully defended WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship against Natalya, but in the process, she got her knee injured during the match in a kayfabe manner.

The Money in the Bank winner took advantage of this situation as she cashed in her contract right after the title match to begin a new title match. She got rid of the ankle lock from Rousey by kicking in the legs and then pinned Rousey to win the match and become the new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Before this upset win, Liv was primarily working on the Raw brand. Now that she holds the top women’s title for the blue brand, it makes sense that WWE switches up her position. The change has also been officially done by the company.

Liv Morgan is currently part of WWE Smackdown roster

Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported that Liv Morgan has been moved to the WWE SmackDown side on WWE’s internal rosters. This move was an expected one since she will be representing the blue brand with her championship belt. It was the second noteworthy change on the company’s internal women’s roster given that the same source noted how Sasha Banks and Naomi have been removed.

“New WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan has been officially shifted to the Smackdown roster, PWInsider.com has confirmed.”

Liv cashing in Ronda Rousey to become the new champion is a tremendous accomplishment since she has become the third WWE Superstar after Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair to pin the UFC Hall of Famer.

Also, as pointed out by Reddit user u/damng1, Liv’s victory was the first time since August 2017 that a new WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion was crowned without one of the Four Horsewomen in the WWE being involved in the scene. With huge fan support behind her, we can only expect Liv’s title reign to be a great success.
