An injury forced Jinder Mahal to sit out of action for over 9 months starting from 2019. He eventually returned to RAW at the end of April, earlier this year when the WrestleMania season had just been over. It was reported that WWE wanted to give him a push as a babyface he was ruled out of action, once again as he after facing issues with his knees.
The former WWE Champion then had to undergo second knee surgery in Birmingham, Alabama, a few months ago. Originally, the surgery was supposed to be a minor one, but apparently, Jinder Mahal had severe damage in his knees. So that ended up being a major surgery that kept him out of action for a significant amount of time.

The good news is Jinder Mahal is in far better shape, now and he’s also started his rehab procedures. The intense workout sessions in the gym have also begun. He himself gave an update on his physique posting a picture on his Instagram story. Going by this, we can assume the therapy sessions are going well and we can expect him to be back on the scene by WrestleMania season.

WWE reportedly had a main-event feud sketched between Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal on Raw before Mahal had to go into a sabbatical. Considering the history between the two superstars, the feud would have been an organic one. WrestleTalk has also reported that Mahal was supposed to get a ‘significant push’ on the roster with Paul Heyman being the then Raw Executive Director.
The head creative of Raw also wanted Jinder Mahal to be the challenger of the reigning champion McIntyre back in 2020 summer. But that program was obviously canceled after Mahal’s injury. The Modern-Day Maharaja and The King of Claymore Country have been part of the 3MB stable alongside Heath Slater back in the days.
While speaking with Sports Matters TV, Drew McIntyre previously promised that we will see a ‘whole new’ Jinder Mahal in the future while remembering their past journey,
“He was there the whole time, both getting fired and me trying to go out there in the independents to make my name. He went off, kind of gave up [and] stopped working out. He turned his life around, went back to the promo, and became WWE Champion before me.
It wasn’t exactly universally praised as when I won the WWE Championship, so there are so many possible layers to this story that the world has seen on television and have not seen. It could make for one of the most memorable feuds of all time. There’s so much material,” McIntyre said about Mahal (courtesy Wrestling Inc)
