Dolph Ziggler was soon back on his feet and countered with a DDT on one leg of Kofi. This prohibited the champion from landing the Trouble in Paradise successfully as Dolph had the Ankle lock-in. Kofi Kingston managed to get out of the hold but he went into a Zig Zag, right away. But Kofi still managed to kick out. Ziggler wanted to escape the cage but Kofi dived over his head through the open door to hit the mat, first. Thus he picked up the win at Stomping Grounds and celebrated with the New Day to end the segment.

Dolph Ziggler made his return to the WWE programming after Money in the Bank 2016 following a hiatus of more than six months. He was a fresh inclusion to the storyline of Smackdown to set up a match against Kofi Kingston at Super ShowDown. They basically renewed the rivalry from the past whom the champion mentioned as a legendary feud. Their history goes way back at the beginning of this decade ensuring they know each other, very well. This time around, Dolph Ziggler had the upper-hand since he had a stipulation added to the match, (via WWE.com)

“At WWE Stomping Grounds, Dolph Ziggler will again challenge for Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship, but unlike their last intense title clash, the rematch will take place inside the unforgiving confines of a steel cage. Ziggler demanded the rematch and the steely stipulation in the immediate aftermath of his loss to The Dreadlocked Dynamo at WWE Super ShowDown.”

The steel cage match surrounding the two of them could have played a huge factor according to Dolph Ziggler. He particularly wanted to ban the New Day members from interfering the match and let Kofi Kingston steal with the victory. It was the same way that their title bout ended at Super ShowDown. Plus, this particular stipulation also ensured that the two veterans could battle in a no-DQ environment at Stomping Grounds. In the end, it was the champion who prevailed overcoming the tough resistance thrown by the challenger.
