In one of the co-main-events of the 2022 Summerslam, Liv Morgan retained her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey. Although the reigning champion was able to retain her belt over one of the most protected characters in the history of the WWE women’s division, the victory wasn’t fully out of controversy.
The finish of this match brought tons of confusion and many believe that the referee’s call was wrong. Ronda Rousey was on her back and denied letting Liv Morgan go after trapping her in the Armbar submission. Since Ronda’s shoulders were on the mat, the referee began counting the pin in Liv’s favor and at the same time Liv also tapped out to the Armbar which the referee never saw.

As a result, Liv Morgan was awarded the victory via pinfall. An irate Rousey was unhappy with the outcome of the match as she went ahead to punish both her opponent and the referee after the match. Both were punished with the Armbar finisher and this was also supposed to be a heel turn by the Baddest Woman on the Planet.
Ronda Rousey has now suffered the overall fourth pin-fall loss of her WWE career – Wrestlemania 35 against Becky Lynch, Wrestlemania 38 against Charlotte Flair, Money in the Bank 2022, and Summerslam 2022 against Liv Morgan.

Liv Morgan pinned twice Ronda Rousey in WWE
As for Liv Morgan, she made history by becoming the first woman to pin Ronda Rousey, more than once in the WWE. As noted above, ‘The Miracle Kid’ also cashed in her Money in the Bank contract to successfully pin Rousey during Money in the Bank 2022 PLE for the Smackdown Women’s Title.
Now after her title retention at Summerslam 2022, Liv Morgan featured in a backstage interview to comment on the win. Per her view, no one can come out the same after having a match against Rousey but at the same time, she’s excited to have that championship belt around her waist,
“Not gonna lie, I’m in so much pain right now. I don’t know that you walk into a match with Ronda Rousey and come out the same but I did exactly what I said I was gonna do and I left with my championship. So I guess I’m okay.
I did it because this is exactly what I said that I was gonna do. I said that I love this more, that I want this more, that I need this more.
So I went there and I did what was needed to be done and I survived Ronda Rousey. I’m still SmackDown Women’s Champion.”
