Match 1 – WWE Raw Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley defeated Asuka and Charlotte Flair to retain
WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021 Results & Ratings
The match was booked for fifteen minutes and all three women received a strong booking. But the match was not up to the mark. It was quite average. Rhea Ripley at the end pinned Asuka with the Riptide finisher as after Asuka took out Charlotte out of the ring.
Match 2 – Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio defeated Dolph Ziggler & Bobby Roode to become the new WWE Smackdown Tag team Champion
The history was finally made; here we have the first ever father and son tag team champion in WWE. But the match was quite boring. It was booked for 17 minutes but in such a long time period, they failed to deliver a good match. Rey and Dominik were attacked backstage by Ziggler & Roode before the match. Rey started the match alone as Dominik was injured. Later, he joined the frame, and he was the one who pinned Roode to win the title.
Match 3 – Damian Priest defeated The Miz in a Lumberjack match
The match was booked for eight minutes and it is not only the worst match of the night but arguably one of the worst matches in WWE history. The Lumberjacks were Zombies? Are you serious? The match was nothing but an advertisement of the upcoming Army of the Dead movie. They fought the zombies together at t appoint of the match, and at the end Priest pinned Miz with the Winging Face First. After the match zombies surrounded and caught Miz. This was a complete joke.
Match 4 – WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair defeated Bayley
The match was booked for sixteen minutes and it was also an average match. For a sixteen minutes time period a lot of things could be done. This is why NXT is way more superior from the main roster. Bianca pinned Bayley with a botched up rolling pin to win.
Match 5 – WWE Champion Bobby Lashley defeated Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre to retain
This was one of the better matches of the night. A fifteen minutes booked match was really fun to watch. There were some really brutal hardcore moments which made this match really exciting. At the end, Drew hit Claymore on Braun and as he was about to pin him Lashley took him out and pinned Braun after hitting a Spear.
Match 6 – WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns defeated Cesaro to retain
It was arguably the best match of the night. The match was booked for half an hour and it was really good and enjoyable. For classic wrestling fans, this match is indeed a masterpiece. Both men did their best to keep the intensity high. It was a great technical showcase we must say. Roman picked up the victory with technical submission. After the match, Usos started beating up Cesaro as Seth Rollins entered. He then beat down Cesaro. Rollins stood tall inside the ring as WrestleMania Backlash went off air.
Overall, it was a weak show. No way it was a good pay per view by today’s standards. We give this event a 1.5 stars out of 5. One star will be deducted for weak booking for most of the matches, one star for booking only six matches and one point five star for the meaning Lumberjack match.
