Roman Reigns will be in the main event spotlight at Wrestlemania Backlash 2022 premium live event. But he won’t be defending his championship belts. Rather he has been booked in an interesting tag team match without any title implications attached to it.
SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos and RAW Tag Team Champions RK-Bro had a Contract Signing for their Title Unification Match at WrestleMania Backlash 2022 on this past Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns came out. He tore the contract and delivered a beatdown on Randy Orton and Riddle via help from The Usos. Drew McIntyre then came out to provide backup to the babyfaces, Team RK-Bro.

Then in a backstage segment with WWE Official Adam Pearce, Paul Heyman said that he wanted the lineup to be turned into a 6-Man Tag Team Match (Roman Reigns and The Usos vs. RK-Bro and Drew McIntyre) at WrestleMania Backlash 2022 instead of the title unification match between The Usos and RK-Bro. WWE eventually confirmed that match, later that evening.

According to the reports of Wrestling Observer, WWE is saving Roman Reigns’ next title defense against McIntyre for the upcoming big Stadium shows. Hence, the expected title defense against McIntyre at Wrestlemania Backlash 2022 was put on hold,
“Roman and Drew I guess would then be to set up for the stadium pay-per-views, then. Which made sense to me. Maybe the Cardiff or maybe Vegas or whatever.
So, they basically, are on this pay-per-view, basically throwing away this pay-per-view. That’s what it is to me.
If you do a single champion, then you’re doing the pay-per-view without a title match, you’re basically just saying, ‘We don’t see this pay-per-view as a big deal at all.’”
The source noted how the earlier tag team unification match buildup was the strongest in the storyline but it was scrapped, all of a sudden. Hence, the only other title match on the PLE card, that’s the I Quit match between Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey may be chosen as the main event of the Wrestlemania Backlash 2022.
Thereafter, Reigns vs. McIntyre could be set up as a marquee match for either Summerslam or Clash at the Castle as both these shows will take place in outdoor stadiums.
