WWE SmackDown star and a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Zelina Vega who is also the winner of the WWE Queen’s Crown tournament of 2021 recently talked about her injury that she picked up in 2022 and talked about the surgery she went through following it.
Zelina Vega mostly became famous among the professional wrestling fans during her works in the independent circuit promotions. She went by the name of Thea Trinidad. She also worked in TNA Wrestling for three years where she was known as a Rosita. She won the TNA Knockouts Tag Team championships one time during her TNA run. She was quite famous on the independent circuit as well.
Zelina Vega Opens Up On Her Injury From 2022 And Surgery Following It
In 2016 she came to WWE for the first time in her career. At first she was portrayed as the manager of Andrade “Cien” Almas. It took her quite a time in WWE to become a wrestler. After spending two years on the NXT she came to the main roster for the first time in 2018. She participated in various matches against various big names. But in most cases she had to face failure. She was mostly portrayed as a jobber in WWE for the most part of her career.
But her push came out of nowhere. Since returning to WWE recently on Friday Night Smackdown she was constantly jobbing to different wrestlers. Meanwhile, the Queen’s Crown tournament was announced in which she participated.
Fans were rooting for Shayna Baszler or Doudrop to win the tournament, but it was quite surprising that Zelina won the whole thing. This victory was quite surprising, and nobody saw this coming. After her back to back wins over Doudrop it is quite clear that WWE is trying to push her. One of the main reasons behind this push has to be her amazing mic skill. She remained out of action for quite a while but recently she made her return as a member of Legado Del Fantasma faction.
Zelina Vega who is also the winner of the WWE Queen’s Crown tournament of 2021 recently spoke to Anna Faris Is Unqualified where she talked about her injury that she picked up in 2022 and talked about the surgery she went through following it. She said;
“I’m used to hearing ‘Thea’ but as of more recently because I had a surgery in May. So from May to October, I was gone from recovery so I hadn’t heard ‘Zelina’ in a while and now I’m hearing it again. I’m like, okay.
“Yeah (I was injured in the ring)… And honestly, it never happens off some really cool move or some crazy flip I did outside the ring. It’s always the littlest thing that will happen and that’s how you get injured but, knock on wood, I actually hadn’t had any serious injuries until that point and it wasn’t even that bad, it’s just silly.
“But, one of my best friends and I were in a match and she had given me this move called a Northern Lights Suplex where basically, she kind of flips me over her backwards and her shoulder went into my chest and I ruptured an implant. But, me of course looking on the bright side, I was like, well, they are ten years old anyway and I kind of wanted them bigger anyway so, it ended up working out.”
