Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib Al Hasan and Comilla Victorians fast-bowler Hasan Ali have been fined 50 percent and 30 percent of their respective match fees, respectively. They breached Level 2 of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Code of Conduct during the clash between the two teams at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday (November 20).
Shakib was found of guilty of breaching Article 2.2.5 of the BCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘showing serious dissent at an umpire’s decision’.
The Bangladesh star was charged with showing dissent to an umpiring decision during Victorians’ innings. The incident had taken place in the ninth over when Shakib had appealed for an lbw after his delivery had hit Imrul Kayes on the pads only too see the umpire giving his decision in the batsman’s favour. A furious Shakib had charged towards the umpire while appealing and had even shouted at the official’s face after the latter stood firm with his initial decision. Shakib had gone on utter some words in frustration.
In addition to the fine, three demerit points have also get added to Shakib’s disciplinary record. According to Article 7.5 of the Code, if a player reaches four or more demerit points in the tournament, the points will be converted into suspension points which would lead to a one-game ban.
On the other hand, Pakistan star Hasan Ali was found guilty of breaching the law for his send off to Mossadek Hossain where he showed the batsman the way to the dressing room in an inappropriate manner.
Meanwhile, both players admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Samiur Rahman, and consequently, there was no need for a formal hearing.
Coming to the game, Victorians defeated Dynamites by four wickets in the low-scoring match. Batting first, the home side could manage only 128 and in reply, the Victorians, led by Shoaib Malik’s unbeaten fifty, chased down the total with two balls remaining.
