Congress was hunting for a nominee who possesses the equal weighting of BJP’s Narendra Modi and who can agitate Modi in the battle of the election. Today it can be said that case is coming to close as a source has confirmed that after many consecutive meetings of the Party’s chief election commission, a participant has been set up.

According to the source, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is the member of Congress’ Rajya Sabha, has been contacted in this respect, although Sachin has declined the proposition. At present, they have no other choice but to rely on the local candidate Ajay Rai. He owns a huge amount of vote bank that is almost more than one lakh.

It was 2004, when for the last time Congress could capture the Varanasi region; Rajesh Kumar Mishra has grabbed more than 2 lakh votes and swept the Lok Sabha election. Nevertheless, in 2009’s election, Mishra fell down to fourth position behind BJP’s Murli Manohar Joshi, and Ajay Rai managed to secure third place.

Another source confirmed that senior Congress activist Rajiv Shukla had been granted the responsibility to convince the Cricketer turned Rajya Sabha member Sachin Tendulkar to face off Modi. Nonetheless, the Bharat Ratna award has turned away to bring up the confront.

Agreeing to a study performed by senior party leaders, it has been proven that a Brahmin candidate would be the most suitable for Varanasi seat against Modi. Whereas, senior Congress leader and a preceding UP in charge Digvijaya Singh has shown his willingness to face off Modi, if the high command allows him to act thus. He has given up himself from taking part in election from 2003, as he got defeated BJP’s Uma Bharti in the Malhara assembly elections in MP.
