Gour Ghosh, the former Bengal cricketer, passed away at the age of 77 on Saturday (July 8).
Ghosh, who plied his trade as a wicketkeeper-batsman, played 17 first-class matches between 1960-61 and 1970-71, representing Bengal and Jharkhand. The ex-cricketer also worked as a selector to pick junior Bengal teams between 2005-06 and 2006-07.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) expressed condolences over the death of Ghosh.
“We convey our solace to the bereaved family and pray to the almighty for eternal peace to his departed soul,” CAB joint-secretary Subir Ganguly said in his condolence message.
Cricket career:
Gour did not enjoy a very long career in domestic circuit but managed to make an impact with his batting and wicketkeeping in the few matches that he played. In 17 matches, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored 266 runs at an average of over 20 with the top-score of 60. He managed to make a bigger impact behind the stumps, taking 13 catches and effecting as many as 16 stumpings in his short career.
