As per a report in Sportstar, Piyush suffered a cut on his spinning finger, and as a result of it, he missed Gujarat’s the previous tie against Jharkhand. His addition to the squad is a big boost for the side.

Piyush had switched his base to the Gujarat ahead of the start of the season as Kuldeep Yadav had become the first choice spinner for Uttar Pradesh in the previous season. Piyush was offered to play for Gujarat, and he accepted the offer. He has had a fruitful season till now as he has 31 wickets in five Ranji games till now.

“The good thing is that Piyush is coming back into the side. He had a cut on his spinning finger, and we decided to rest him during the league phase. He is very handy with the bat down the order. With more than 5,000 runs in first-class cricket, he will definitely help us with batting as well,” Hitesh Majmudar, Gujarat’s coach told Sportstar.

Gujarat will also get the services of left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai, who has not been selected in the India U19 squad for the Junior World Cup to be played next year. Desai has scalped 28 wickets in four first-class games. He has won two Man of the Match awards as well.

Gujarat will be without Jasprit Bumrah and Axat Patel, who are a part of India ODI side. It is to be noted that the Indian selectors are set to announce the Test squad for South Africa series on December 4. If Parthiv Patel is selected as a reserve wicketkeeper, then Gujarat might miss services of their skipper in next rounds (depending on the result) if team management decides to send Test players early.

Though it will be only the case if he is selected in the squad.
