Indian ODI captain MS Dhoni has worn all crowns of world cricket, but still he is not the most celebrated cricketer in India. A section of India cricket fan, who grew up watching legendary captain South Ganguly led Indian team, can’t tolerate Dhoni’s achievements.
When the former captain Ganguly wants Dhoni to continue for a few more years; the haters want the man to leave the game. They probably forget the biggest question of Indian cricket would be, who will fill the vacuum of wicketkeeper-batsman Dhoni. Currently, none of the wicketkeepers in domestic cricket has the calibre of Dhoni.
They have their own analogy to define Dhoni’s career. A captain whose all-around performances is blessing for India, but this section of fan failed to embrace the successor of the golden generation of cricketers.
A great strategist of limited over cricket is the front runner of India’s success in limited over cricket.
In 2007, he gave India World T20 2007. Nobody expected India, without any T20 experience, would be the champion of the one of the exciting innovation of world cricket, that changed the batting style of cricketers.
Under Dhoni’s Test captaincy India grabbed numero uno position in world cricket. He led a team which was filled with legendary cricketers such as Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. He showed a great leadership skill and led these legends for Indian domination in world cricket.
He has won the coveted trophies of world cricket- Commonwealth Bank series in Australia in 2008, he has won Asia cup, in 2013 the Champions Trophy.
He gave India the biggest thing World Cup after 28 years. He left everybody in tears as our religion “cricket” has culminated with the triumph of the world cup.
But, a section of Indian fan has been critical about his failure in England and Australia Test series and recent defeat to Bangladesh.
What this fan group did not recognise is Indian team’s transition phase and the rise of Bangladesh team in ODI.
They have different logics for different things.
But, they failed to measure the greatness of a crickter. It hangs between failure and success of him.
MS Dhoni will be remembered for his success as a greatest ever wicket keeper batsman of India and a shrewd leader.
