Premie League giants Manchester United make their second signing of the season as they rope in 25-year-old Matteo Darmian from Torino FC. Manchester United had contacted the club for the player’s availability. The player had initially agreed personal terms after a lucrative offer was made to him by the Red Devils. Darmian was previously earning €700k per year at Torino. But it is believed that United are offering three times his previous earnings. The wage will be somewhere around €2.5m a year, €48k per week.
Torino had initially demanded €20m as transfer fee for the player. United rejected the idea and offered €12m plus a further €3m in bonuses. Torino countered it with demanding €18m plus a further €2m in bonuses.
Lazio and AS Roma were two other interested parties for the defender but for obvious reasons Manchester United were in an advantageous position than the other two.
Matteo Darmian had a fantastic season last time with Torino. He played 33 Italian Serie A matches for teh club. He was like a pillar at their backline as he made 44 interceptions, 4 blocks and made 79 clearnces.
Manchester United have a dearth of quality defenders in their squad. This was one of the most vulnerable areas in the Manchester United last season which affected their performance a lot. The club is already in talks with star defenders like Sergio Ramos and Nicolas Otamendi. Darmian’s inclusion will be a great boost for the side.
The defender is due to have his medical at the Premier League club today.
