Mumbai Indians (MI) played an all-round to stop the winning run of defending champions Chennai Super Kings in 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Mumbai bowlers were on the mark as they defended the target to beat Chennai by 37 runs.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings got off to the worst start during their chase as debutant Jason Behrendorff provided a perfect start. He dismissed Ambati Rayudu in the very first over to kickstart his IPL career with a bang. Lasith Malinga, who is playing his last game before returning to his country cashed on the momentum to dismiss the other opener – Shane Watson. Striving at six for two, Chennai Super Kings were in desperate need of a partnership. Suresh Raina and Kedar Jadhav looked determined to take their side out of danger but a brilliant catch by Kieron Pollard to dismiss Raina at the boundary stopped the progress. Jason Behrendorff had a spectacular opening returning with two for 22 in his four overs.

Kedar Jadhav, who looked in brilliant touch partnered MS Dhoni to march towards the target, but Mumbai Indians bowlers bowled good line and length to keep the batters in check. The batsmen failed to match up the asking rate and two quick wickets from Hardik Pandya put the home side in good stead. With 66 runs needed off the last four overs, Lasith Maling and Jasprit Bumrah took the onus on himself to take guide their side to the second victory of the season.
Lates cameo help Mumbai post 170
Previously, late cameos from Mumbai Indians batsmen helped them to post 170 runs on the board. Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock who scored a beautiful century in the last game failed to continue his form as Mumbai lost their first wicket within eight runs. Deepak Chahar, who has been consistent for Chennai Super Kings provided the first breakthrough. Suryakumar Yadav who has struggled so far, played a mind-boggling innings while Rohit Sharma failed to get his timing right.

Just when Mumbai was looking good, spinners provided the breakthrough for the visitors. MS Dhoni has time and again depended on his spinners, and they have delivered every time. Ravindra Jadeja got the better of Rohit while Imran Tahir dismissed Yuvraj Singh, who has been among the runs. Since then, Suryakumar and Krunal Pandya shared a massive stand to bail their team out of danger. They added 62 runs for the fourth wicket before Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard played blinders at the end to finish the innings on a high.

Looks like everyone in #CSK is only focused on getting their "batting"!#IPL2019 #MIvCSK

Saying it from 1st match this is not our ideal batting line up, we really need one more batsman (Faf/Sam)
Plz give chance Bravo to bat ahead of Jadeja
& The most important selection: Plz throw out S Thakur from playing Xi. Never ever call him@ChennaiIPL #MIvCSK

Asking rate edges past 11. With any other team in this kind of chase, you would have been worried. But with #CSK, you never know.

Who do you like to keep an over to bowl at the death overs for a bowler like Jason Behrendorff or would you like to use him at the early stages of the match like Rohit did?— Amith K S (@Amith_K_S) April 3, 2019
