Jasprit Bumrah Picks 3/25 Against Delhi, Becomes 1st Indian To Pick 15 wickets for 7th Consecutive Season

Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians pacer had an eventful outing in match No. 69 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday against Delhi Capitals. The seasoned campaigner of the five-time champions bagged three crucial wickets in Mumbai’s impressive five-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC).

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah also surpassed former spinner, Harbhajan Singh, as the MI star pacer with an unorthodox action scripted history in the cash-rich league. The Mumbai Indians (MI) pace spearhead was at his brutal best with the ball as Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians shattered Delhi Capitals’ (DC) dreams of entering the playoffs in their final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Saturday.

Jasprit Bumrah Picks 3/25 Against Delhi In A Match Winning Effort

Jasprit Bumrah, the Man of the Match inspired Mumbai Indians to upstage Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets in the match No. 69 of the IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium. Leading MI to an impressive win over DC, pacer Jasprit Bumrah also entered his name in the history books.

Breathing fire at the Wankhede Stadium, the pace spearhead managed to restrict Delhi Capitals on a below-par total. Picking up wickets at crucial junctures, Jasprit Bumrah first got the prized scalp of Prithvi Shaw (24) in the third over of Delhi Capitals’ innings.

The Mumbai pacer then handed power-hitter Mitchell Marsh a golden duck in Delhi’s must-win encounter against the five-time champions. The seasoned campaigner of the Mumbai Paltan completed his three-wicket haul by removing an on-song Rovman Powell (43) in the 18th over.
Jasprit Bumrah’s three for 25 helped MI to restrict DC to 159-7 in the 20-over contest. In reply, MI chased down the target in 19.1 overs to help Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs.
It has been a tremendous journey for Jasprit Bumrah, who started off the IPL with Virat Kohli as his maiden wicket. Bowling alongside Lasith Malinga helped him initially and the Sri Lankan star has backed his strength and boosted his confidence.

Jasprit Bumrah Surpassed Harbhajan Singh To Become 2nd Highest Wicket Taker For Mumbai Indians Behind Lasith Malinga

Jasprit Bumrah, who was named the Player of the Match, scripted history by breaking two records in the ongoing IPL. The pacer surpassed legendary former spinner Harbhajan Singh (127 scalps for MI) to become the second-highest wicket for Mumbai Indians. The veteran Indian pacer has bagged 145 wickets in the IPL playing 120 games for the five-time champions.

He is only behind legendary pacer Sri Lankan Lasith Malinga, who picked up 195 wickets for MI in his iconic career. The senior pacer is also the first Indian bowler to take 15 wickets for the seventh consecutive season of the cash-rich league. The Indian speedster has scalped 15 wickets from 14 matches in IPL 2022 averaging 25.53 at an economy rate of 7.18. His career-best figures of 5/10 came this season against KKR. Mumbai Indians picked up only 8 points in the 10-team tournament this season and finished last in the league’s points table.
Delhi had their fate in their own hands but fatal mistakes on the field ultimately cost them a place in the playoffs. Rishabh Pant dropped a simple catch of Dewald Brevis and then did not review a caught behind appeal against Tim David. Shardul Thakur let go of a couple of tough chances as well. MI seems to have found a power-hitting finisher in Tim David. Dewald Brevis showed his prowess too.

The seamer reckoned that it would be a great opportunity for him to learn from Sri Lankan legends Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga. Navdeep Saini added: “I’m also really excited to work with Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga, and pick their brains on various aspects of the game. I think this will be a great opportunity for me to learn and groom myself, further evolving my skills and contributing to the team’s performances.”

Amit Mishra, 39, Tweets He Is “Not Finished Yet” After Going Unsold At IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Amit Mishra is a household name among cricket fans in India. The veteran spinner has played over 60 international matches for India and picked up more than 150 wickets. In IPL, too, he has enjoyed success.

In 154 IPL games, the leg spinner has 166 wickets. However, the 39-year-old failed to find a suitor at the recently held IPL 2022 Mega Auction, as he was one of the well-known names besides the likes of Suresh Raina, Shakib Al Hasan, Eoin Morgan and several others who were left unsold.

Amit Mishra IS Not Finished Yet But Would Be There If Delhi Capitals Need Him

Amit Mishra was part of the Delhi Capitals squad last season; however, they did not go for him at this auction. At the end of the auction, Parth Jindal took to social media to thank the veteran spinner for his services to the franchise over the years.

Parth Jindal even added that Delhi Capitals would love to have Amit Mishra back when the time comes. Upon getting the message, the 39-year-old thanked his former employer and added that he’d be there for Delhi whenever in need. He even said that he was not finished yet.

He took to twitter and wrote, “Thanks @ParthJindal11 for the kind words & your acknowledgment of my services for the team. I am truly humbled! But, I am not finished yet and can easily add to the legacy of @DelhiCapitals…only if DC needs me! I am always in their corner. #ibleedDC”

Amit Mishra was part of the Delhi Daredevils squad from 2008-to 2010. He then joined Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He returned to Delhi in 2015 and was one of the critical members of the squad until last season(IPL 2021).

He is one of the most successful bowlers in IPL history. He currently occupies the third position among leading wicket-takers in IPL behind pacers Dwayne Bravo and Lasith Malinga, who have picked up 167 and 170 wickets, respectively. Amit Mishra, hence, is the most successful spinner in IPL history in terms of taking wickets.

Delhi Capitals Co-Owner Parth Jindal Opened The Doors For ‘Unsold’ Amit Mishra In Any Capacity For Delhi Capitals In IPL 2022

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal penned down a beautiful message for veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra. He seemingly opened the doors for a coaching role at the franchise for the latter.

Amit Mishra, 39, did not find any takers in the 2022 IPL mega-auctions. The veteran leg-spinner was part of the Delhi Capitals set-up until last season but the franchise opted against acquiring him back at auction.

Delhi Capitals Would Love To Have Amit Mishra Back In Any Capacity Seemed Fit: Parth Jindal

In a heartwarming post on Twitter, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal expressed his gratitude towards Amit Mishra for his stellar contributions to the franchise. He also stated that he would love to have the leggie back in the mix in a coaching capacity.

He wrote: “To one of the @IPL greats @MishiAmit we @DelhiCapitals would like to salute everything you have done for us over all these years and would love to have you back at DC in whatever capacity you see fit as your insights would be most valuable. Mishy bhai DC is yours for life.”

Amit Mishra has been one of the champions of the cash-rich league since its inception back in 2008. He kick-started his IPL journey with the Delhi franchise (2008-10) before moving to the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in 2011.

Following the suspension of the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, the Haryana cricketer went on to represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 & 2014 respectively. Amit Mishra, who made his Test debut back in 2008, returned to the Delhi franchise for yet another association back in 2015. It has now ended with 2022 mega-auctions.

Amit Mishra Claimed 166 IPL Wickets Which Is Best Among Indians And 3rd Best Overall After Lasith Malinga And Dwayne Bravo

It remains to be seen if this is indeed the end of the road for Amit Mishra in the IPL. But if that’s the case, then he can hold his head high with pride. He finishes as India’s most successful bowler and the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of the competition after pacers Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo.

In 154 games spread over a span of 13 years, Amit Mishra claimed 166 wickets at an average of 23.95 and an economy rate of 7.4. This includes four four-wicket-hauls and a five-for. He also holds the record for most hat-tricks (3) in IPL history. The right-handed cricketer claimed three hat-tricks for three different franchises.

One of the most consistent batters in world cricket currently, Steve Smith found no takers in IPL 2022 auctions.
Even at 42 years of age, Imran Tahir continues to be one of the best spinners plying their trade in T20 leagues across the globe, but he wasn’t picked by any franchise.

Piyush Chawla has been a constant name in the IPL ever since its inception in 2008 but won’t feature in IPL 2022. The Mr IPL, Suresh Raina has to be the biggest name which missed out on finding a team this season. Ishant Sharma, who has played 93 IPL matches since the 2008 IPL, also found no takers. Amit Mishra, who was one of the oldest players in the IPL 2022 mega auction, went unsold. Delhi Capitals had not retained him.

Meanwhile, the second, third, and fourth T20Is have been relocated from Queensland and Adelaide to minimize biosecurity risks by reducing travel across the country. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board announced that Rumesh Ratnayake, the former international who has played 23 Tests and 70 ODIs in a career spanning from 1982 to 1993, was till recently working as the fast bowling coach at the National High-Performance Centre.

Lasith Malinga Excited About Opportunity To Share Experience

Lasith Malinga, former pacer will be the Sri Lanka men’s team’s bowling strategy coach during their five-match T20I tour of Australia.

“We have some very talented young bowlers and I am very excited about the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge to help them develop,” Malinga commented after his appointment.

He was appointed by the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket in consultation with the Technical Advisory Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket. The appointment is effective from 1st to 20th February 2022.

Daushka Gunathilaka And Kushal Mendis Return For T20I Series Against Australia

Lasith Malinga has previous experience with such a role. In IPL 2018, he was the Mumbai Indians bowling mentor, before he returned in 2019 as a player. In Sri Lanka, he is reputed for his unconventional approach to bowling, and his strategic thinking – attributes that are believed to have helped him become one of the island’s greatest limited-overs players.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sri Lanka Cricket had also named a squad of 20 cricketers for the T20I series in Australia.

Opener Danushka Gunathilaka was recalled for the first time since being suspended for breaching Covid-19 protocol on the tour of England last year, and Kusal Mendis, who was suspended alongside Danushka Gunathilaka, was also picked.

There was no room, however, for Niroshan Dickwella, the other player whose one-year suspension was lifted earlier this month. The series will be played from February 11 to 20 in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

Lasith Malinga, who is undoubtedly the greatest pacer in IPL history has taken record 170 wickets in 122 games he has played. Lasith Malinga started playing for Mumbai Indians in the 2009 season, and last appeared in the 2019 season. His final over in the 2019 final was enough to prove his greatness even at that stage of his career.

Lasith Malinga represented Sri Lanka for more than 15 years across all formats as he picked 101 Test wickets, 338 ODI wickets, and 107 T20I wickets in his career. He played his last international game in March 2020.

Lasith Malinga Likely To Be Named Sri Lanka’s Fast Bowling Coach For Australia Tour

Former Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga is likely to be named Sri Lanka’s fast bowling coach for the Australia tour. Malinga represented Sri Lanka for more than 15 years across all formats as he picked 101 Test wickets, 338 ODI wickets, and 107 T20I wickets in his career. Malinga played his last international game in March 2020.

He carried Sri Lanka’s pace attack single-handedly, more so in the shorter formats. Considering his phenomenal career, the High-Profile Cricket Advisory Committee has recommended to Sri Lanka Cricket’s Executive Committee to appoint him as a fast-bowling coach.

Lasith Malinga retired from international cricket in March 2020

However, his appointment would be a short-term deal as he is likely to be offered the job for this Australian tour only. Malinga hasn’t had any big coaching assignments previously though he worked with Mumbai Indians as a mentor in the 2018 season.

Meanwhile, according to a report in The Island, Malinga wasn’t the most likeable person as most Sri Lankan captains had an issue with him over his discipline. That might go against him while offering him such a big responsibility. The report further stated that in his playing he used to slow down the game deliberately so that the captains get suspended for the slow-over rate.

“He wasn’t the most likeable person in the dressing room with a most of Sri Lankan captains having concerns about his conduct,” the report stated.

“It is alleged that Malinga deliberately slowed down the over rate with the intention of suspending the captain, an allegation that SLC has not investigated. Cricket’s playing conditions at one point dictated that slow over rates would result in fines for players and suspension for the captain. Since then, the International Cricket Council has amended the playing conditions and the captain is no longer suspended,” he added.

Under Malinga’s captaincy, Sri Lanka won the T20 World Cup final in 2014 as Chandimal outed out from last 3 matches of the tournament as he was struggling for form.

However, his captaincy record isn’t encouraging overall as he lost all 9 ODIs as captain while in T20Is he won only 7 games out of 24.

Sri Lanka’s tour to Australia will begin on February 11 as they will play 5-match T20I series.

Harbhajan Singh Picks MS Dhoni To Lead His All-Time T20 XI

Harbhajan Singh, a veteran Indian spinner, has picked MS Dhoni as his all-time T20 XI skipper. The now 40-year-old MS Dhoni started his T20I career, guiding Team India to glory in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007, a year before IPL started. Thereafter, he helped his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings win the Indian Premier League four times and the Champions League T20 a couple of times as well.

As his openers, Harbhajan Singh picked India’s Rohit Sharma and West Indies’ Chris Gayle. Then, for the No.3 slot, the Turbanator went for England’s Jos Buttler. He said that Jos Buttler is reliable and has the ability to dictate terms after getting set.

Harbhajan Singh: Jos Buttler Is A Reliable Batsman

Jos Buttler has scored in excess of 250 every time since making his IPL debut in 2016. While he had to leave IPL 2019 midway to join the England team for the World Cup 2019 preparations, he made an impact during his eight-game stint, scoring 311 runs, following his 548-run season in IPL 2018.

The right-hander scored 328 runs in the IPL 2020 and 254 runs in 7 games in the India leg of IPL 2021 that included a ton-his career-best 124 before opting out of the UAE leg IPL 2021.

“He is a very reliable batsman and someone who can control the game once he gets set,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying.

At No.4, Harbhajan Singh picked Shane Watson, who retired from all forms of cricket in November 2020. Back in 2016, after the World T20 in India, Shane Watson bid adieu to international cricket. However, Harbhajan Singh said that Shane Watson had the potential to put in all-around performances and help his team win matches.

“Being an all-rounder, he has won many matches through his batting ability and has won games with the ball as well,” he stated.

In IPL 2020, held entirely in UAE, Shane Watson scored 299 runs from 11 matches averaging 29.9 at a strike rate of 121.05. CSK finished their campaign in seventh place with 12 points from 14 matches, and it was the first time they couldn’t reach the playoffs.

Harbhajan Singh: Kieron Pollard Can Be Moved Up And Down The Batting Order As Per Demands Of The Situation

Harbhajan Singh went for South Africa’s AB de Villiers, India’s MS Dhoni, West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo, and Kieron Pollard at No. 5, 6, 7, and 8 respectively. However, the veteran said that Kieron Pollard could also be slotted up the order if the situation demands so.

“The batting order can be altered and Pollard could be moved up and down the order depending on the needs of the side. Any T20 team is incomplete without Pollard,” Harbhajan added.

He also picked the wily Sunil Narine, who has plied his trade in numerous T20 leagues around the world. Next, Harbhajan Singh went for Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah as his two specialist fast bowlers. Lasith Malinga is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL, having racked up 170 wickets at an economy rate of 7.14. Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, is the Indian pace spearhead across formats.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Pakistani batter Babar Azam, who doesn’t feature in IPL, were not picked by Harbhajan Singh in his all-time T20I playing XI. Another surprise exclusion is Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who has the best economic rate in IPL. Also, missing was the 2011 ODI World cup and 2007 T20I World cup hero Yuvraj Singh, who hit 6 maximums in an over against England’s Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20I World Cup.

Dwayne Bravo Eager To Call Kieron Pollard To Let Him Know IPL 2021 Is His 16th T20 Title

Dwayne Bravo set a new world record on Friday as he won his 16th T20 title in a decorated career on Friday in Dubai. Dwayne Bravo went past his good friend and West Indies teammate, Mumbai Indians’ Kieron Pollard, as the two-star cricketers were tied on 15 titles each before the 2nd leg of IPL 2021 began in the UAE.

Dwayne Bravo went ahead as he was part of the Chennai Super Kings side, which won its 4th title, beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs on Friday in Dubai. The pace all-rounder played a crucial role for MS Dhoni’s side, who put behind a horror run in IPL 2020 where they failed even to qualify for playoffs to reign supreme in the UAE the following year.

Dwayne Bravo Will Turn His Phone On And Let Kieron Pollard Know IPL 2021 Is His 16th T20 Title

Notably, Dwayne Bravo had equalled Kieron Pollard’s tally of 15 titles when he led St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to the Caribbean Premier League title in 2021. As a result, Dwayne Bravo had headed to the 2nd leg of IPL 2021 as the CPL champion, and he went on to enjoy more success in arguably the biggest franchise-based T20 tournament-IPL. Dwayne Bravo managed 47 runs and picked 14 scalps averaging 18.78 in 11 IPL 2021 matches.

“That’s the first thing I’m going to do when I turn on my phone – let Kieron Pollard know this is the 16th. He has some catching up to do,” Dwayne Bravo said.

While Dwayne Bravo has won 16 T20 titles, Kieron Pollard has 15. The next best on the list is Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik, who has won 12 titles. The prolific Mumbai Indians captain, Rohit Sharma, is 4th on the list with 10 titles, including the 5 IPL trophies. Lasith Malinga is at the 5th spot with 9 titles.

Dwayne Bravo: Faf du Plessis And Ruturaj Gaikwad Were Standout Performers For Chennai Super Kings

Speaking about CSK’s dream turnaround after the disappointment of 2020, Dwayne Bravo credited the success to the team management. He held the light on the prolific contribution at the top from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis, who broke plenty of records during their significant run in IPL 2021.

Notably, Faf du Plessis finished with 633 runs in IPL 2021, just 2 short of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s tally of 635, which helped him become the youngest Orange Cap winner.

“After last season was really disappointing. Owed it to the franchise, the fans to come up with a better performance. Don’t get nervous. Have had a good performance in different phases of the tournament. Faf and Ruturaj standout for us. To have these two guys scoring over 500 runs together,” Bravo said.

Dwayne Bravo has won the T20 World Cup for West Indies twice in the year 2012 and 2016. At the same time, he has won the IPL title three times and the Champions League title once for Chennai Super Kings. He has won the CPL title five times. At the same time, he has also been a part of the BBL team champion twice.

Kieron Pollard Names Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Sunil Narine, MS Dhoni, And Himself As 5 Top T20 Players

Kieron Pollard picked his top 5 T20 players, with MS Dhoni the only Indian making the cut. There was no place for Indian cricket stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or Jasprit Bumrah. The T20 stalwarts AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, and Andre Russell also didn’t find a place.

Kieron Pollard, speaking to ICC, picked his top 5 T20 players. While MS Dhoni was the only Indian to make the cut, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah were snubbed. In the list of best ever T20 cricketers, Kieron Pollard picked an opener, a wicket-keeper batter, an all-rounder, a spinner, and a pacer.

Kieron Pollard Names West Indies Teammates Chris Gayle And Sunil Narine Besides Himself Among Top 5 T20 Players

Kieron Pollard, who is regarded as one of the greatest players T20 cricket has ever seen, remains a phenomenon. Even at the age of 34, the big-hitting West Indian hardly fails to mesmerize fans with his performances, be it with the bat or with the ball. Kieron Pollard is truly a trendsetter in T20 cricket, having played in various leagues across the globe, alongside some of the greatest players the sport has seen.

In a conversation with ICC ahead of the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE & Oman, Kieron Pollard spoke about some of the finest players he has come across in the shortest format of the game. But, quite surprisingly, there was no mention of India captain Virat Kohli, Kieron Pollard’s Mumbai Indians teammate & skipper, Rohit Sharma, or another MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

1. The first on the list of Kieron Pollard’s top 5 T20 cricketers was the legendary veteran opener, Chris Gayle. Even at the age of 42, Chris Gayle remains an active cricketer participating in the franchise leagues or the international stage for Windies, where he remains a fearsome batsman. He still sends chills down the spine of many bowlers.

In T20 cricket alone, Chris Gayle has played 446 matches and scored 14261 runs average of 36.94, with a strike rate of 145.87. The Caribbean batsman has amassed 4965 runs in the IPL. He is the third-highest run-getter among overseas players in the IPL, only behind Sunrisers Hyderabad opener David Warner, who has scored 5449 runs, and AB de Villiers (5083 runs). Chris Gayle’s feat includes six tons, which is the most by a batsman in the league.

The big-hitter holds the record for fastest IPL hundred, as he scored a ton in 30 balls against Pune Warriors India in 2013. His 175 not out against PWI is still the highest individual score in the league.

2. Second on Kieron Pollard’s list was Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, arguably the first true T20 pace specialist bowler that world cricket has seen. His unconventional bowling style truly made him a difficult bowler to play against, and the Sri Lankans made the most use of it. In 295 T20 games, Lasith Malinga has 390 wickets at an economy of just over 7. In T20Is, Lasith Malinga is the highest wicket-taker in the world with 107 scalps to his name. Lasith Malinga is also the highest wicket-taker in IPL history, with 170 scalps averaging a mere 19.8 in 122 matches.

3. Third on the list is another West Indian, Sunil Narine. A big-hitter of the ball and a mystery spinner who continues to deceive the opponents with his bowling, Sunil Narine is the perfect cricketer for every team when it comes to the shortest format T20s. Sunil Narine is capable of opening the batting or playing down in the middle-order as a slogger. With the ball in hand, Sunil Narine has the third-most wickets in the shortest format of the game, with only Imran Tahir and Dwayne Bravo ahead of him. He has picked up 419 scalps in 379 T20s.

4. Next on the list is former India captain MS Dhoni, who is the only Indian to have made a list. MS Dhoni is a name that needs no introduction. After winning the maiden World T20 in 2007 and 2011 ODI World Cup after a hiatus of 28 years to leading Chennai Super Kings to three Indian Premier League titles, the list of MS Dhoni’s achievements in white-ball cricket matches doesn’t have an end. In the shortest format, the wicket-keeper batsman has 6861 runs to his name at an average of 38.54 and a strike rate of 134.82.

5. Picking himself for the 5th and the final spot, Kieron Pollard completed the list.

“If it is my World XI T20, then I’ve got to be there, I have got to play. My records speak for themselves when it comes to T20 cricket,” said Pollard.

Kieron Pollard is the second-highest run-getter in T20 cricket, with only compatriot Chris Gayle ahead of him when it comes to sheer statistics. Not just that, the big-fellow has also picked 298 wickets with the ball in the shortest format, making him one of the perfect players in the T20s. Kieron Pollard has scored 3255 runs in 177 IPL games averaging about 30, and a phenomenal strike rate of 150. He has also taken 65 scalps in IPL.
