I Want To Get Better With My Yorkers – Jasprit Bumrah

Unorthodox action coupled with consistent performances – Jasprit Bumrah has bowled over not only the batsman but also the fans and legendary figures across the globe. He got the unique technique and mastered the art of death bowling with his accuracy. However, Jasprit Bumrah still wants to better his consistency in bowling yorkers.

On Friday, he bagged the 2019 Youth Icon award at the ‘Forbes India 30 Under 30’ event in Mumbai and sat down for a brief chat with Network18’s Group Sports Editor Gaurav Kalra about his remarkable journey in international cricket.

No matter what the format is, Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s go-to-bowler in recent times. The right-arm pacer, who has scalped 49 wickets across 10 Tests in addition to 103 wickets in 58 ODIs and 51 wickets in 42 T20Is, though said that there’s a long way to go for him.

Every time I tried new bowling action:

Speaking at the event, Jasprit Bumrah quoted that it is pleasing to watch the youth and kids trying out his action. Recalling his childhood days, Bumrah quoted that he used to copy various bowlers action to gave some fun on the field.

“As a kid, I used to watch a lot of cricket on TV and tried to emulate bowling actions of all the top bowlers in the world. So, everyday when I went out to play it was a new bowling action. There is no better feeling when kids are emulating your bowling action because I used to do that when I was growing up.”

Lasith Malinga showed the importance of yorkers – Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah at the event said that he is decent with his ability to bowl yorkers but wants to get better. Meanwhile, the pace spearhead also revealed the importance of sharing the Mumbai Indians’ dressing room with Lasith Malinga.

“I started playing cricket with the tennis ball and the most useful delivery then to pick up wickets was the yorkers, so I stuck to that. When I came to IPL and played in the same team with Malinga, he showed me the importance of bowling accurate yorkers. I think I am decent with the delivery but I want to get better,” concluded Bumrah.

Well, Jasprit Bumrah had a fantastic season for the Indian National Cricket Team. He has become the pivotal player across the formats for the team, especially, on the big occasions. In the next assignment, he will be seen on the field when the team takes on the West Indies.
