Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spend the most amount of the budget in grabbing the experienced Piyush Chawla from the auction Pool. The spinner has been bought for a whopping amount INR 6.75 crore after winning the bidding war against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). He became the most expensive Indian player in the IPL 2020 auction.
After playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for six years, Piyush Chawla will serve under the MS Dhoni-led CSK for the next edition. The spinner has a huge experience in the Indian Premier League. He has been part of the cash-rich league since 2008. Chawla has played 157 matches and picked 150 wickets.

Chawla will further strengthen the spinning department of the franchise. The Chennai-based franchise has already the top spinners likes of Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Harbhajan Singh in their ranks. Earlier, CSK coach Stephen Fleming opined that the 30-year-old is a quality spinner and also has great relations with MS Dhoni.
Meanwhile, Piyush Chawla has labelled Dhoni as the better captain than others in the league. He is delighted to start his new journey with the CSK under the guidance of the former Indian captain.
“There can’t be a better team than CSK to play for and better captain than MS Dhoni. As a player, you always want to be with a good team, play under a good captain and you can’t have a better team than CSK and a better leader than Mahi Bhai. I can’t ask for more,” Chawla told PTI.
Apart from Chawla, CSK also purchased the left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore, who is uncapped, for 20 Lacs. The allrounder Sam Curran, who was bought for 5.50 crore, will also give his service to the franchise. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, who has featured in only 7 T20Is, was picked for two crores by CSK in the auction.
