On Sunday (18th October) afternoon, Australian cricketer David Warner became the fastest batsman (in terms of the number of innings) to complete 5000 IPL runs. The 33-year-old left-handed batsman is also the first overseas cricketer to score 5000 runs in IPL history.
On this afternoon, David Warner-led SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) was playing against Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi) in the 35th match of the IPL 2020. SRH skipper Warner decided to field first after winning the toss in that game. At the end of the first innings, KKR scored 163/5 (20 overs).
David Warner complete his 5000 IPL runs in 135 IPL innings
Before this match, the left-handed batsman David Warner was 10 runs away to complete his 5000 IPL runs as he scored 4990 runs in 134 IPL innings. During the second innings of the 35th match of the IPL 2020, Warner reached the 5000 runs milestone in IPL career after coming to bat at the no.4 position. The left-handed batsman reached that feat and created history after completing his 10th run in that game.
Warner became the fourth batsman but first overseas cricketer to complete 5000 IPL runs. While Suresh Raina was the first cricketer to score 5000 IPL runs during the opening match of the IPL 2019, Virat Kohli became the second cricketer to reach this milestone in just five days later.
On 1st October 2020, Rohit Sharma became the third cricketer to complete 5000 IPL runs. Now, Warner joined in this list, who is the first overseas batsman to score 5000 IPL runs.
Before this match, Virat Kohli was holding the record of the fastest batsman to complete 5000 IPL runs as he reached that feat in 157 IPL innings. Warner broke that record on Sunday afternoon after completing 5000 IPL runs in 135 innings.
