5 Players Who Have Sourav Ganguly To Thank For Their Careers

If you are a die-hard fan of Indian cricket, you will remember the start of this century as a nostalgic time for the Men in Blue. One of the fiercest men in Indian cricket, Sourav Ganguly took full charge of the team and started to make things happen that the team could not even imagine. Sourav Ganguly took the team to the World Cup final in 2003 but even as India lost the game, it spelt the start of a new era in Indian cricket and has helped the current Indian team establish the position they have managed to at the start of the current year.

However, there was a transition in a few years with Mahendra Singh Dhoni taking the honours of leading the side from Sourav Ganguly. Dhoni has also given India a lot of memories, the World T20 in 2007 and the 50-over World Cup in 2011 to name a few.

The talismanic wicket-keeper batsman has always been criticized for his team selection and had to face a rage many times for dropping senior players from the squad. He helped transform the Indian national team into a young team but made sure that the core of the team still consisted of the best players from the previous era

Here are 5-star players who were rose to the international level under Sourav Ganguly and went on to impress under Mahendra Singh Dhoni:

The man hardly needs an introduction. The hard-hitting Delhi-born opener is arguably one of the best opening batsmen of the modern game. He is a fearless attacker of the ball who puts no price on his wicket and has only one thing in mind, to score runs. Sourav Ganguly made him open for India that led to his growth.

He came into the scene as a limited over batsman who did not fear the opposing bowler and managed to take the same attitude into the longer version of the game only to find even more success. The only batsman in the history to have scored 7,500-plus runs in both Tests & ODIs as an opener Fastest Test triple century in test matches for which he took 278 balls.

He has currently retired from all forms of cricket but was an important part of the T20 World Cup-winning team in South Africa in 2007. Surely he is one of the best openers to have played for India.

The Chinnaswamy franchise, owned by the United Spirits have, right from the first season, a strong team that can beat even the best teams in the world. The likes of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers have all been sensational for the club and have always produced some astonishing moments. In the 2013-season, RCB produced a sensational game as they took the Pune Warriors franchise to the cleaners and set them a target of 264 after being put in to bat.

Chris Gayle was at his peak as he scored an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls in one of the most memorable innings in T20 cricket. A late 31 off just 8 balls from De Villiers made sure that they reach a target that will stay in the record books for a long time.

Barcelona Have No Intention Of Using This Midfielder As A Part Of The Deal To Land This PSG Star

Barcelona had a couple of excellent seasons under Luis Enrique, the previous manager of the club, but in the previous season, they failed to lift either the league title or the Champions League title, leaving them red faced come the end of the season.

They have already replaced Enrique with former Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde, who has some serious plans for the club this summer.

The Catalan giants have a few frailties in their squad that need to be addressed this summer and Valverde is trying hard to add some quality to his first team before the start of the next season.

A number of star players have been linked with a  move to the Camp Nou recently but Barca are yet to announce their first signing of the summer.

However, one name constantly linked with a move to the club is Italian midfielder Marco Verratti.

Verratti top transfer target

The PSG star is easily one of the best midfielders on show in Europe and has been in impeccable form in League 1 for more than a year now.

However, he is linked with an exit, with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona all linked with a move for him in the summer.

PSG are adamant that he runs down his contract with the club and are not ready to let him leave unless any club meets his release clause and that has been a problem for even the biggest clubs in Europe.

It is understood that Verratti also has his heart set on a move to Barcelona but reports suggest that he will not offer a transfer request, out of respect to the French club.

This means that Barcelona will have to break the bank and meet his valuation if they want him in their squad this summer.

However, they may also be looking to offer one of their players to persuade PSG to sell. One such player who Barca were reportedly ready to off load was Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

However, technical secretary Robert Fernandez spoke on Monday about a possible swap deal for Rakitic and Verratti and revealed that Barcelona are not going to let the Croatian leave anytime soon.

“We do not plan to lose good players in order to bring in other good players,” he explained.

It will not be interesting to see if the Catalan giants are ready to meet his release clause before the start of the next season.

Huge: Arsene Wenger Ready To Sell Up To Eight Players To Fund The Transfer Of This French Sensation

Arsene Wenger seems to have taken it personally that Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League for the next season.

He is one of the busiest managers in Europe at the moment, trying to add the right quality to his first team for the next season.

The Gunners have already signed Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac, both of who are expected to be a huge part of the first team next season.

But Wenger is not done yet and is desperate for more additions to the squad before the start of the next season.

The manager is adamant that Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez will stay back at the club but that has not stopped him from scouting for yet another winger.

According to various reports, Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco this summer.

Bids rejected

The Gunners have not left any stone unturned in this move for the French sensation and have already made a couple of bids for his services.

French Champions AS Monaco have already lost two of their first team players in Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva already this summer and are reluctant to let Lemar leave on the cheap.

They have already rejected a £30m bid and a £40m bid from Arsenal for his services and are not ready to let him go for anything less than his release clause.

And it is now understood that Wenger is getting desperate and this is the step he wants to take to get Lemar to the Emirates.

Wenger ready to sell up to eight players to fund Lemar

According to reports from Daily Mail, Wenger is ready to off load up to eight players, to make sure that he can fund a move for the 21-year old French winger.

Wojciech Szczesny, Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson are all close to quitting the club this summer.

Szczesny is wanted by Italian giants Juventus while Crystal Palace, Brighton and Newcastle are all keen on Jenkinson.

Debuchy is expected to return to France with Nice this week while English full back Kieran Gibbs is a target for Watford, Newcastle and West Brom.

Spanish striker Lucas Perez is wanted back in the La Liga while Palace have already made a bid for Calum Chambers for a move this summer.

But the most high profile exits could be Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud, both of who are not expected to play in the first team next season.

Do you think Arsenal can land Thomas Lemar this summer?

Spain’s Friendlies Investigated After The Spanish FA Was Arrested On Corruption Charges

The fight against corruption is making itself heard in the football fraternity and it is shocking to see the number of incidents they have taken over the in the last couple of months.

There were a few cases where anti-corruption agencies have found enough evidence to charge even the highest of the officials for clubs across the world and this time the scandal has hit the Spanish side.

Spanish FA president arrested

The footballing world yesterday woke up to the news that an anti-corruption operation, ordered by Spain’s National High Court found a lot wrong with the way the Spanish FA is run.

In the presence of Judge Santiago Pedraz, the anti-corruption operation led to arrests of Spanish FA president Angel Maria Villar and of his son Gorka, amongst others.

According to reports from Spanish news outfit Marca, Villar was arrested at around 08:00 CET by Unidad Central Operativa – Central Operative Unit – agents.

It is also reported that Juan Padron, the economic vice-president of the Spanish FA, was also arrested.

It is also understood that searches have also been carried out at the national federation’s headquarters, at the Tenerife federation headquarters and at those in Valencia and Ceuta as well.

Marca also revealed that Villar had been taken from his house to the federation’s offices at Las Rozas, where the investigations are being carried out

The Spanish national team friendlies that took place not too long ago are reportedly the major reason for these arrests.

It is claimed that the crimes include improper management, falsifying documents, private corruption, misappropriation and possible asset stripping, all in relation with Spain national team friendlies.

Matches under the scanner

Though it was not initially clear as to the games that led to these arrests, Marca has later revealed two matches in particular that caught the eye of the anti-corruption unit.

The Spain vs Bosnia match which took place in Switzerland on May 29, 2016, and the Spain vs South Korea fixture held in Austria just a few days later on June 1, 2016, have both been circled in red, as reported by the Spanish news outfit.

Both games were played as a part of the preparation for the EURO 2016 last year and it is understood that both matches have been flagged as suspicious going forward in the investigation.

The report claims that Villar only organised these matches to compensate for the contracting of services and other commercial relationships which benefitted his son Gorka, a specialist in sports law”.

Zinedine Zidane Wants €100m For These Two Players This Summer

Real Madrid created history last season in what was Zinedine Zidane’s first full season at the club after his promotion to the first team in 2015.

The French manager has now helped Real Madrid to their first league title in more than three years and has also won two back to back Champions League trophies, becoming the first team to do so in the modern era.

Zidane is now looking to improve on his squad for the next season to make sure that he has enough firepower to face the challenges in the upcoming campaign.

This has seen him linked with some of the finest stars in world football at the moment but it will mean that Real will have to sell a few first team players to make sure that there is enough space for the newcomers.

And in this inflated market, they are not ready to let any player leave for anything less than their market value.

In conjunction with that, Real Madrid are now demanding a whole of €100m for two of their squad players in Alvaro Morata and Danilo.

Morata for €70m

The Spanish striker moved back to the Bernabeu after a two-year exciting stint in Italy and though he has been productive in Spain, he has failed to establish himself in the first team under Zidane last season.

He is still a backup for Karim Benzema in the first team and reports claim that he is ready to quit the club, with Real also ready to let him go this summer.

Italian outfit AC Milan and English outfit Chelsea are both interested in his services but neither club is ready to meet his valuation.

According to latest reports, Los Blancos are not willing to let him leave for anything less than €70m and are ready to ignore all offers below the price tag.

Danilo for €30m

And Zidane wants his Brazilian full-back to also be sold at his valuation.

Danilo, who joined the club just last summer, has not been able to show enough promise to dethrone Dani Carvajal from the first team and Carvajal is expected to start next season as the first choice right back, pushing Danilo down the pecking order.

Zidane is reportedly ready to let him leave but is demanding €30m, almost as much as he paid for his services a year ago.

Chelsea and Manchester City are both interested and if they meet the valuation, Real might be able to get €100m from the sale of the duo this summer.

West Ham United Close To Signing Former Manchester United Star Who Could Play His First Game Against The Red Devils

West Ham United did not have the best of the seasons under Slaven Bilic in the last campaign as they failed to break into the top half of the table, on the back of a season that saw them play the Europa League qualifiers.

Though Bilic was unlucky with the number of injuries to his squad, he will know that he is lucky to keep his job and that he will not be given any more chances to get West Ham back on track next season.

So the Croat is making sure that he has enough arsenal in his squad to make sure that they can compete with the best next season.

This has seen the Hammers linked with some of the finest stars in world football at the moment and one player constantly linked with a move to the club is Mexican international Javier Hernandez.

Having played for Manchester United and Real Madrid in the past, Hernandez is one of the most prolific strikers in world football and reports suggest that West Ham and Chelsea are interested in his signature this summer.

West Ham to announce Chicharito this week

But according to reports from Sky Sports, the Hammers have won the race for the signature of the Mexican star and are set to unveil him in the upcoming days.

He has 28 Bundesliga goals to his name in two full seasons for Bayer Leverkusen but it is now understood that he is on his way back to England, to play in the Capital city next season.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth spoke to the press and revealed that both clubs are close to reaching an agreement for the player.

“One move that is edging closer is the striker Javier Hernandez,” Sheth said on Sky Sports News.

“It’s our information a move from Bayer Leverkusen could be finalised in the next week,” he added.

He also suggested that West Ham will make an improved bid for Stoke City star Marko Arnautovic soon.

‘West Ham have had two bids rejected, the latest being £20million.“

“We expect the third offer and expect it soon,” he added.

Chicharito to debut against Manchester United

And ironically, West Ham United have a chance to unveil their new signing in the Premier League when they travel to the Old Trafford in the first game of the season.

West Ham’s opening game, yep, is at Hernandez’s former club Manchester United,” Seth confirmed.

Hernandez scored 37 goals in his time at Old Trafford but can he better it at Manchester United?

Watch: The Viral Video Of This YouTuber Walking Over The Roof Of Anfield In The Middle Of The Night

English outfit Liverpool are one of the most decorated clubs in world football and though the last decade has not been too kind to them, they have one of the largest fan bases in all of Europe.

There are many things a Liverpool fan is proud of, not to mention their five Champions League titles and their current owners FSG gave them, even more, a reason to cheer last summer.

Fenway Sports Group, who are all out into improving the Anfield outfit, decided to improve the seating capacity of Anfield and decided to build an extension to the Main Stand last summer, which saw Anfield’s capacity increase to over 50,000.

Generally, this means more security to one of the most scenic ground in England across the Stanley Park but that security was breached without too much fuzz by a social media nut.

History of Roof-Walk

Like in the past with West Ham and Arsenal, Liverpool have fallen prey to a YouTuber who decided to scale the Anfield ground.

Back in 2016, a couple of videos were uploaded, which saw a group of people walking on the roof of the Emirates Stadium and the London stadium.

Neither of the videos are allowed to be taken illegally and the amount of nonchalance the YouTuber showed has gone viral.

Here is a video of the Emirates roof-walk:

It is time for Anfield

And this routine found its way to the Merseyside, where Anfield was the target.

YouTuber, named CassOnline today posted a video of him walking on the roof of Anfield, in the dark, showing off the whole ground.

He captioned the video:

Ello Ello! A lot of you guy’s have been requesting a stadium sneak/climbing video for quite a while down in the comments (I see you guys!), so I took a coach down to Liverpool to climb their FC, Anfield.

Hope you guys enjoy the edit and please check out the artists responsible for the musical score in the video!

Here is the video:

This comes at a time when Liverpool’s squad is in Asia for the International Champions Cup that starts in a week.

Do you think Liverpool need to take measure to avoid this in the future?

While many found this video entertaining, the loyal of the Liverpool fans are worried as to how an unnamed YouTuber could make his way into one of the most high profile football stadiums in the country.

Huge Boost For Liverpool As Virgil Van Dijk On The Brink Of Handing In A Transfer Request

After a hard fought season marred with crucial injuries, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool managed to get into the top 4 of the points table, making themselves a place in the Champions League for the next season.

The Reds were one of the most exciting attacks in the Premier League in the previous season and the addition of Mohamed Salah will only make them stronger for the next season.

However, their biggest enemy has been their defensive unit, which is far from world class.

The likes of Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan are not first team material and Liverpool have been looking to add a centre back to their squad.

One player constantly linked with a  move to Anfield is Dutch international Virgil van Dijk.

The former Celtic man was one of the most wanted players in England at the end of the previous season but Liverpool were ready to meet Southampton’s valuation and reportedly also agreed on a deal with the player.

However, tapping allegations saw them apologise to Southampton for their approach, withdrawing interest from the player.

Van Dijk only interested in Liverpool

It seemed as though Liverpool missed an opportunity to snatch the Dutch star after the apology but it is now understood that Liverpool are once again back in the race to sign Van Dijk before the start of the next season.

According to reports from the Express, Van Dijk is now unsettled at the St Mary’s and has his heart set on a move to Liverpool.

The report claims that Van Dijk has now skipped training with the Southampton first team and is readying himself for a move to Anfield.

It is also understood that he is ready to offer a transfer request if that is what it takes for Southampton to sell him this summer.

However, Southampton are under no obligation to sell, as VVD has more than three years left on his current contract with the club.

Southampton want £75m

However, it is hard to see the Saints reject any offer from Liverpool close to their valuation of the player.

According to certain reports, Southampton value Van Dijk at an astonishing £75m and if Liverpool make a bid meeting the valuation, Van Dijk will shift allegiances.

It is a humungous fee for a defender but is an investment that will solve the problems at Anfield for years to come but do you think Liverpool should spend £75m on Van Dijk this summer?
