Five Most Horrifying Injuries In The Cricket Field: Cricket has always been associated with fame, glory, records but there are few other things that don’t come to light very often ‘Injuries’. While fame and records take years to be made, injuries can happen in a split of a second once down on the ground it will probably stay with them for a lifetime.

The year was 1999, the match was between Australia and Sri Lanka. Australian legend Steve Waugh and Pacer Jason Gillespie got seriously injured when both the players ran to catch a ball lifted by Mahela Jayawardene. As Steve Waugh and Jason Gillespie had their eyes on the ball, neither saw the other coming and they collided. While Steve Waugh broke his nose, Gillespie snapped the tibia in his right leg.

Top 10 Tallest Cricketers In The World

Cricket has always been deemed as a game of natural talent and skill. Big body and structure don’t mean a better player and the best example of this is the little master Sachin Tendulkar. However over a long time, since cricket has been played we have seen some really tall cricketers. Here are the top 10 Tallest Cricketers in cricket history.

10. Abey Kuruvilla (India) – 6′ 6″

An interesting name at the 10th position of the list is that of an Indian pace bowler, Abey Kuruvilla.  He is perhaps the tallest player to represent India. Kuruvilla leads the Indian pace attack on the tour of the West Indies in 1997. Kuruvilla’s career was a very short span with just 10 test match and 25 one day internationals. He is one of India’s tallest cricketers ever.

Twitter trolls Ravi Shastri after Sourav Ganguly hits out at former India director

Sourav Ganguly, in an interview, answered all the allegations Ravi Shastri had put on him. Earlier Ravi Shastri had claimed that he was not selected for the role of Indian coach because of Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly said that he was saddened by Ravi Shastri’s personal attack. He also added “If Shastri thinks he’s not been made coach because of me, then he is living in a fool’s world. He should have been present in the meeting and not holidaying in Bangkok”

Twitter then saw trolls being sent on Ravi Shastri, and him being a left-arm spinner of his time, it was expected that the trolls will connect to this aspect. Here are some of them

IPL 2016 final RCB v SRH: Moneyball9 fantasy picks

IPL 2016 has now come to the point where we are a match away from the winner, and we are definitely going to get a new winner this side. Hyderabadi franchise has won it once, but that was Deccan Chargers, way back in 2009 in South Africa. Royal Challengers Bangalore has tasted the finals of the IPL.

This match will be between a batting heavy side in RCB, and a bowling heavy side on SRH, though they have been weakened by few injuries to their pacers. However, they still have a bench strength they can boast of. Mustafizur is expected to be fit for the finals, and that will be heartening for SRH fans.

Kohli and AB deVilliers have been in some form this season, coupled with the fact that their home ground is Chinnaswamy Stadium, where runs are not just scored but injected out of a bowler. Not taking away from the both, but to be fair, the best batsman of the season so far is David Warner, the one man army of Sunrisers Hyderabad batting line-up. He doesn’t just score runs, but scores them quickly, doesn’t have the luxury to chew up deliveries and accelerate at the end, something which Virat Kohli has enjoyed under AB deVilliers and even K Rahul.

The final being at Chinnaswamy stadium lights up the hope from RCB batsman to score big again, but if any attack is potent enough to stop them, it has to be SRH’s attack. Bhuvi’s swing can count for a batsman initially and then Mustafizur may well give nothing away in the death overs.

Going by weather predictions, there are chances of rain. If the complete day is washed away, there’s a provision of a reserve day, and if both the days are washed out, the winner will be decided with a Super Over. Or else, RCB will be crowned as Champions as they were ahead of SRH on the table. In case of a curtailed over the match, it will be advantage Sunrisers for the fact that their batting may not be exposed to the best extent.

Considering all the parameters, if Mustafizur is fit,  SRH has slightly higher chances of winning. SRH is not the best of batting side, arguably one man army, but RCB’s bowling attack makes up for this.

For fantasy, the key is to pick a batsman who bats at the top, keeping in mind the credits one have. Personally, I would not pick Chris Gayle, going by his current form, which may turn out to be a blunder at Bangalore, but one will have to leave out a batsman.

Virat Kohli, AB deVilliers, David Warner & Shikhar Dhawan are my 4 picks as a batsman. Among wicket-keepers, K Rahul has to be an automatic choice here, given Naman Ojha bats too low down the order, and sometimes as a floater.

Among the all-rounders, Shane Watson is an automatic choice ; he bats three down, bowls at the death. Moises Henriques is another one. He batted at No 3 in the previous match, and bowls his overs as well. If Mustafizur is not fit, I will personally pick Ben Cutting. He was used at the death in the previous match, plus this lad can hit some big ones. Those who have watched previous editions of BigBash will agree on this. One can’t expect a lot from the bowlers here, especially during the middle overs. So, those all-rounders who bowl at the death and can hit big ones are useful here. I have opted to drop Yuvraj; expect Watson to turn up to Yuvraj as soon as he comes into bat. Although, if Mustafizur is fit, I am tempted to pick him.

Among the bowlers, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is a must pick. Chahal is another one; he has been fantastic for RCB. Chris Jordan is another death bowler and I will surely have him, only if Mustafizur is unfit . Bipul Sharma has been good in the previous 2 matches, but being a finger spinner, don’t expect much from him at Bangalore.

Wicket-Keeper: K Rahul

Batsman: Virat Kohli, AB deVilliers, David Warner & Shikhar Dhawan

All-rounders: Shane Watson, Moises Henriques, Ben Cutting ( if Mustafizur is unfit), Yuvraj Singh ( if Mustafizur is fit)

Bowlers: Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Chris Jordan( if Mustafizur is unfit)  & Mustafizur Rahman (if fit)

Hope this helps. Best of luck !!

IPL 2016 Qualifier 2 SRH V Gujarat Lions: Moneyball9 Fantasy picks

Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Gujarat Lions in the 2nd qualifier of IPL 2016, with the winner going all the way to Bangalore to face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. Sunrisers Hyderabad will have momentum with them, having defeated Kolkata Knight Riders on this very ground, just 2 days back. On the other hand, Gujarat Lions were just short of the victory, just because of a brilliant innings from AB deVilliers.

The most heartening aspect about Sunrisers’ victory was that it came without any sort of contribution from David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan. Yuvraj Singh, along with Moises Henriques, rose to the occasion and took his side to a defendable total. And then their bowling, which is arguably the best of the tournament.

Gujarat Lions will take heart from the fact that they almost ruled the much-talked about RCB batting line-up. The inconsistency of top order remains their main concern.

The match will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla, the same venue, where Sunrisers defeated Kolkata Knightriders, just a couple of days back. The venue should again present a low scoring game, and help to the spinners, only if they are willing to take any. KKR utilised Kuldeep Yadav at the start of the innings, something Gujarat might also try to employ against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But they haven’t experimented with their bowling combination a lot, and that might just see Praveen Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni open the bowling.

With SRH’s middle order showing some sort of form, and their ever reliant bowling line-up, this is their match to lose. Gujarat Lions will have to sort out their combination, one that suits this pitch. They lost their way in the 2nd half of the league stage and then somehow crawled to the top of the table. They may be tempted to play extra spinner(s), given Bravo hasn’t been in the best of the business so far. They have 3 potential openers and will be interesting to see who opens the innings. Sunrisers, on the other hand, are likely to go with the same playing XI.

For fantasy teams, the basis is very clear; pick as many potential bowlers, plus the bowlers who are likely to get a go during the batting. No doubt that one must be lucky to get the right batsman. You pick ‘X’, and he fails but ‘Y’ clicks. But one just can’t help in such cases.

Among batsmen, I would personally go with David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh ( only because of his performance in the previous match), Suresh Raina & Aaron Finch. It’s okay to replace Dwayne Smith with one of these 2 Gujarat Lions’ batsmen. In some fantasy leagues, Yuvraj is considered to be an all-rounder. I will still prefer him there. Not just his bowling, he might well be a good option as a bowler too.

Among all-rounder, Moises Henriques is my first pick. Ravindra Jadeja would have made it to my XI on this pitch, had this match been against any team, but not Sunrisers Hyderabad, just for the fact that they have too many left-handers. Dwayne Bravo should not be expected to contribute a lot with the bat on a turner, but his slow balls should grip the surface and thus may fetch you some points.

Dinesh Karthik should be your first choice wicket-keeper batsman.

Among bowlers, pick any one among Praveen Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni. Nothing much to choose between the two. Maybe, I would go with Praveen Kumar because Warner and Dhawan struggle more against swing, than pace. The other two being Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Mustafizur Rahman. Mustafizur’s wickets column doesn’t really reflect his contribution towards the Sunrisers side, but that really has helped the others to pile up few wickets.

SRH v KKR Eliminator: Moneyball9 Fantasy picks

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders will now face in the eliminator and the winner of this match will face the loser of the Qualifier 1, who now is Gujarat Lions, to fight for a spot in the final of IPL 2016. These two teams qualifying for the Top 4 isn’t surprising, but what is really surprising is their position. Both the teams looked good for Top 2 and eventually none of these two made it there, thanks to their performance in the latter stage of the league stage.

Sunrisers Hyderabad has been a one-man show, pretty much, if not completely, when it comes to their batting. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders have seen different players rising up to the occasion and winning it for them. When it comes to the bowling, both the teams boast a powerful bowling attack, capable of winning them matches.

The match will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi and this might well tilt the contest towards Kolkata KnightRiders. The  pitch over here is expected to turn and thus favour the spinners. Sunrisers have a decent pace attack, though Nehra’s absence will decrease the threat; but they lack a quality spinner. Karn Sharma has been woeful and Sunrisers will bank on Yuvraj Singh to roll over his arm. Mustafizur’s slow cutter will grip the surface and thus it will be tougher than usual to face him in the death overs.

But a turning track is KKR’s territory. They are capable enough to field 4-5 spinners, all being quality ones; Narine, Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav & Shakib al Hasan, along with Yusuf Pathan can ask questions to any team. Not just this, they boast some world class batsman against spin, with the likes of Gambhir, Manish Pandey , Yusuf Pathan and co.

KKR looks a better side, at least in the given conditions and should win the eliminator against Sunrisers, unless David Warner does something extra-ordinary here. Dhawan has regained some of his lost touch and so has Yuvraj, but KKR seems to have all answers.

For fantasy, one must keep in mind that we won’t get to see 180s sort of pitch and thus one should try to have more slow ball bowlers and all-rounders, rather than having more batsman. KKR is expected to make some changes for this match, be it subject to Russell’s fitness or the need of the pitch. Sunrisers really doesn’t have much of an option.

Among batsman, Gautam Gambhir should be an automatic choice for this kind of pitch. If he can play out Bhuvi’s spell, it might turn out to be very tough for SRH to dismiss him in the middle overs. Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan, along with wicket-keeper batsman Robin Uthappa should cover for Kolkata KnightRiders’ batting. From SRH, David Warner is an automatic choice, and given Dhawan’s recent form, I will prefer to have him as well.

Among all-rounders, Moises Henriques should be picked, as he is expected to bowl 4 overs and bat at 5. Russell’s availability is subject to his fitness, and if you join a league which allows you to change the team  after  the toss, have Russell in your squad or else better don’t pick him. If you are picking Russell, better drop either Manish Pandey or Yusuf Pathan.

Among the bowlers, pick pacers who will bowl in the death or the spinners. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar & Mustafzur Rahaman are automatic choices. KKR dropped Chawla in their last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, mainly because of the number of left-handers in their line-up who could have hit him with the spin. Kuldeep Yadav was picked ahead of him and it proved to be a pretty good decision. So, I would prefer to pick Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav as two other bowlers.

Yuvraj Singh doesn’t fit in my 11, given his struggle against spin and especially Narine, something which Gambhir tried to exploit in the previous match. Maybe, KKR might as well drop Kuldeep Yadav but it looks very unlikely and if they do, there’s no shame in calling them dumbs.

Only another change I may think of is having Shakib in place of Kuldeep, given he will bowl on this turner and may well get a chance to bat. But his form of late just tempted me to have him away from the 11.

Best of luck to all those who will be trying out their luck !!

RCB v Gujarat Lions Qualifier 1: Moneyball9 Fantasy Picks

So, we are now into the business end of the IPL 2016, with Gujarat Lions emerging as the table toppers, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Even the most optimistic RCB fans would not have expected their team to qualify for the Top 4 position, forget to be in top two. But as things turned out, Virat Kohli, almost single-handedly, has led his side into Top two.

Both, RCB & Gujarat Lions, can have two go to the finals, if needed. With the sort of batting power RCB has, it is almost certain that they will make it to the finals, with two consecutive batting failures being very unlikely. Their bowling has shown signs of improvement as well.

The match between RCB and Gujarat Lions will see the former as the favourites, given the batting depth. Gujarat’s batting boasts a heavy top-order, with almost nothing in the middle. The only positive aspect being that Suresh Raina has shown signs of his IPL form, something which is the highlight of his resume.

The sort of form Virat is in, he could have chased down Vijaya Mallya, had the Indian government requested him to. Plus, Gujarat Lions lack a lethal pacer to trouble the likes of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and co. All in all, it would be a surprise to me if Gujarat Lions wins this match.

Fantasy picks:

Since the match is being played at Chinnaswamy stadium, there’s no need to add that the match will see a bucket full of runs. So, the strategy should be to cover as many batsmen as one can, given the bowlers will go for plenty for sure. More the batsman you have, you are more likely to score more.

So, it’s better to go with a combination of 1 wicket-keeper batsman, 5 batsmen, 1-2 all-rounders and 3-4 bowlers. Just because, there are some quality all-rounders in both the sides, I am personally attracted to having 2 all-rounders.

There should be no doubt that Virat Kohli should be your batting captain . The kind of form he is in, one shouldn’t even think of not having him as the captain. Chris Gayle’s record at Chinnaswamy and his few innings leading to the Top 4, makes him an obvious pick, along with AB deVilliers.

Dwayne Smith hasn’t been in the best of form with the bat in the previous few innings, but he has contributed with the ball, something which even Raina won’t back on him on this track and the kind of opposition. McCullum has been more cold than hot this season. Suresh Raina has been good in the previous few matches, and Aaron Finch has been the most consistent Gujarat Lions batsman so far. So, my pick from the Gujarat Lions squad are Aaron Finch and Suresh Raina.

Among wicket-keepers, Dinesh Karthik is a better bet than K Rahul. The obvious reason being the fact that on this track, RCB’s top 3 can be expected to face the major chunk of the deliveries, which may not be the case with Gujarat Lions. In some leagues, AB deVilliers is included under the wicket-keeper bracket, in that case, I don’t think that I need to mention whom you should pick.

Among the all-rounder, spinners might not have a big role to play, especially finger spinners. So, Dwayne Bravo and Shane Watson are the best bet. The fact that they both bowl in the slog overs, they are highly likely to pick wickets then.

Among the bowlers, Chahal continues to impress one and all, on a track where other spinners have struggled. Chris Jordan has shown signs of improvement and thus I will prefer him over others, just for the fact that he will bowl towards the death as well. We got to pick one among, Dhawal Kulkarni and Praveen Kumar. Praveen Kumar is a better option, though going with the former is also not a bad choice.

With two sides filled with some T20 batting giants, it was always going to be tough to pick your fantasy teams. You got to be lucky to get it right, no matter the amount of thinking you have put behind putting your XI.

You might pick a different XI, but for this track do keep in mind to pick that batsman who are likely to face more deliveries, and the bowlers who are likely to bowl in the death.

Best of luck !!
