Betting is a crime in India. IPL rules state that if any owner/team official of any team is found to be involved in betting then the team can be suspended. In case of CSK’s Gurunath Meiyappan and RR’s Raj Kundra were found to be guilty of betting and hence both the teams were suspended.

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for a couple of years while the team owners for banned for life. The Supreme Court-appointed three-member panel suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years as part of the big-ticket reforms to clean Indian cricket. Justice Lodha settled things.
