Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who batted in the top-order during the 2003 ODI World Cup, finished the tournament as the second-most run-scorer. The left-handed batsman scored 465 runs in 11 innings of that tournament with an average of 61.18.

During that tournament, Ganguly hit three centuries. His highest score in that tournament was 112 not out against Namibia during the Group Stage (at Pietermaritzburg on 23rd February). Later, Ganguly scored 107 not out and 11 not out both against Kenya in the Super Sixes stage and semi-final respectively.
