While Australia won the 2003 ODI World Cup, the Australian captain Ricky Ponting was the most run-scorer for them and third-most run-scorer in that tournament. The right-handed batsman scored 415 runs in 10 innings in that tournament along with two centuries and one more half-century. He hit a total of 13 sixes in that tournament, which was the second most number of sixes for a batsman in that tournament.

Ponting delivered his best batting performance in that tournament during the final against India (at Johannesburg on 23rd March 2003), where the right-handed batsman scored 140 not out off 121 balls with the help of eight sixes and four fours.

During his another centurion knock in that tournament, which was 114 runs against Sri Lanka in the Super Sixes (at Centurion on 7th March 2003), Ponting hit four sixes apart from eight fours.
