Experienced South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs maintained his aggressive batting during the 2007 ODI World Cup. During that tournament, the right-handed batsman scored 342 runs in eight innings of that tournament (average 57.00), including hitting 14 sixes.

During the Group Stage match against the Netherlands (at Basseterre on 16th March 2007), Gibbs created a history by becoming the first batsman in international cricket history to hit six sixes in an over. It was the 30th over of South African innings, where Gibbs smashed six sixes to the Dutch bowler Daan van Bunge. While Gibbs scored 72 runs off just 40 balls in that game, he hit seven sixes and four fours.
