Andrew Strauss (England) – 78 runs against India (at Bengaluru on 27th February 2011)
It was the 11th match of the 2011 World Cup (Group B) which finished in a thrilling way. After India managed to score 338 runs in the first innings (49.5 overs), majorly thanks to the opener Sachin Tendulkar’s 120 runs, England opener and captain Andrew Strauss provided the solid start.
The left-handed opening batsman Strauss played the giant knock of 158 runs off 145 balls before the Indian left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan successfully trapped him for the lbw. During that knock, Strauss scored 78 runs from the boundaries, including 18 fours and only six.
After Strauss was dismissed, the other unsettled English batsmen were struggling to handle the Indian bowlers but they finally managed to tie that game on the final ball of that match (338/8).
