This year’s Champions League T20 saw many incidents in the two weeks. Players scored centuries, hat-trick was recorded, amazing fielding by the players, more cmpetition among the teams and eventually one winner i.e. Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni’s Massive Six off Yusuf Pathan
MS Dhoni is not a stranger for scoring some huge sixes on occasions that will redefine history. The monstrous six for Chennai Super Kings against Kings XI Punjab at Dharamshala, Historical Six in Indian Cricket off Nuwan Kulasekara’s bowling in the 2011 World Cup Finals in Mumbai to name a few. Once again Dhoni did it when he hoisted Yusuf Pathan over the long on boundary for massive six. What’s special about the six? It was the one that sealed the victory for Chennai Super Kings in the finals of 2014 CLT20. This might be considered as “The Moment” of the 2014 CLT20.
Suresh Raina’s Hundred
Suresh Raina Takes his consistency to another level in for Chennai Super Kings ever since his inception in 2008. He has been scoring over 400 runs in all the editions of IPL and yet failed to win the orange cap at least once. This time around in the 2014 CLT20, he won the Golden Bat award for being the highest scorer of the tournament in which he scored 234 runs in 5 innings. The icing on the cake will be his century against Kolkata Knight Riders in the finals which steered Chennai Super Kings home.
Parvinder Awana’s Hat-Trick
Parvinder Awana took a hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings in the second semi-final of the 2014 CLT20. Awana took the wicket of Raina in the last ball of sixth over, and then took the wickets of Pawan Negi and MS Dhoni at the start of 17th over to complete his hat-trick. He became the second after Isuru Udana to take a CLT20 hat-trick.
First it was Bailey who has to be credited for the wicket of Raina as he changed the field before the wicket taking delivery and stood at short mid wicket. Raina pulled a delivery and Bailey, who stayed low and scooped up a super catch to see the back of him. Awana came back in the end and cleaned up Negi with a perfect yorker before having the big fish Dhoni caught at short midwicket by Karanveer Singh. Punjab eventually lost the match.
Kane Williamson’s century
Kane Williamson scored the tournament’s first century when he remained unbeaten on 101 against Cape Cobras in a Group match at Raipur. Williamson remained not out on 101 off 49 balls as he took his side Northern Districts over 200 in their innings. His innings included eight fours and five sixes.
Stunning Fielding Efforts
This edition of CLT20 witnessed several acrobatic stuffs from the fielders. It all began in the qualifiers when Northern Knights Tim Southee combined with Daryl Mitchell in the boundary line and almost took a stunner. Then it was the turn of Chennai Super Kings trio of Brendon McCullam, Dwayne Bravo and Faf du Plessis who were flying on the field to catch the ball. McCullam’s efforts against Dolphins in the boundary was one of the highlights of the tournaments. Faf du Plessis threw himself on the ground on numerous occasions in the field just like Dwayne Bravo.
