The star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli perfectly took advantage of home conditions during the 2016 T20 World Cup and finished the tournament as the second most run-scorer. The right-handed batsman scored 273 runs in five innings of that tournament with an extraordinary average of 136.50 and strike-rate of 146.77.

Kohli was the only batsman in that edition to hit three half-centuries. While he scored the match-winning 55 not out against Pakistan at Kolkata (on 19th March 2016) and 82 not out against Australia at Mohali (on 27th March 2016) in the Super 10 Stage of that tournament, he also scored 89 not out against West Indies in the semi-final of that tournament (at Mumbai on 31st March 2016).

Though India finished that tournament as the semi-finalists, Kohli won the Player of the Tournament award for his extraordinary batting performances.
