2017 Champions Trophy : Soumya Sarkar Wants To 'Play Perfect Game' For Bangladesh 1

ICC Champions Trophy will start with England locking horns with Bangladesh starting from 1st June.

With Bangladesh already losing against Pakistan in the warm-up game, the team is looking forward to performing their best on the main platform.

Opting to bat, Bangladesh took off well with Tamim and Soumya Sarkar. Tamim struck fantastic 142 run partnership with Kyes (61) to put up a big total. The entire Bangladeshi middle order fired which helped them put up a big total on the board. Junaid Khan was expensive but he also managed to clinch four wickets for Pakistan with Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan also picking two scalps each.
Sarkar has blamed the windy weather of England for their dismal fielding performance in the warm-up match against Pakistan. They lost by two wickets. The defeat came mostly because of too many missed catches. Earlier, Bangladesh had also missed many catches in the last match of tri-nation series against New Zealand, though the issue had got overshadowed because of Bangladesh’s eventual victory.

“Actually this is happening because of the weather. No one plays bad deliberately. Mistakes happen. And I think the condition and weather also played a big part. The weather was very windy, it was breezing sharply at times which made things difficult for us. But I think we will be able to adjust with the condition in next few days,” said Soumya.

Acknowledging their mistakes in the previous matches, Soumya said they will minimise the errors in the tournament proper.

“Yes, we have done a string of mistakes. We missed catches, we leaked runs in the death overs, and we couldn’t capitalise and make big scores despite starting well. These are the things we have noted and currently working on. I don’t think you will see us repeating these mistakes again in the Champions Trophy. We will try to play our perfect game.”

Sarkar was included in the squad for Bangladesh’s home series against Zimbabwe and made his debut in the final ODI in December 2014. Although he did not get to a bowl, he scored 20 off 18 balls at the No.3 position. He was subsequently named in the 2015 World Cup squad.

Bangladesh will play their last game against India on 30th before taking on England.
