C) Australia’s unique Records at Champions Trophy – Summary:

  1. The only team to defend their title – Australia is the only team who have defended their ICC Champions Trophy title. In overall, Australia has won twice this tournament which was in 2006 and 2009.

Only India is the other team who have won this tournament more than once. The Asian giants won this trophy for the first time in 2002 (as co-champion with the hosts Sri Lanka) and next in 2013.

So, during the upcoming 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, India also has a chance to become the second defending champion in this tournament history.

 

  1. Highest runs partnership for any wicket – Australian batsmen Shane Watson and Ricky Ponting put an unbroken 252 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket against England at Centurion on 2nd October 2009. It is the highest runs partnership for any wicket in the ICC Champions trophy history.

In the addition, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee put the highest 8th wicket partnership in the ICC Champions trophy history which was a 70 runs partnership against West Indies at Johannesburg on 26th September 2009.

 

  1. Largest victory (by balls remaining in the second innings) – Once Australia had won against the USA by nine wickets with 253 balls to spare at Southampton on 13th September 2004. It is the largest victory (by balls remaining in the second innings) for any team in the ICC Champions Trophy history.
