2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Team Stats Preview – India

2017 ICC Champions Trophy will begin in few days. India will begin the campaign as a defending champion, courtesy winning the last edition of this tournament (2013 ICC Champions Trophy). In the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, the defending champions are one of the favourite teams.

- Most no.of centuries – In the ICC Champions Trophy history, Sourav Ganguly also has the record of most no. of centuries as a captain. Ganguly had scored 3 centuries in this tournament and all as an Indian captain.
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly is also the record holder of joint most no .of centuries in the ICC Champions Trophy. Apart from Ganguly, Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa) and Chris Gayle (West Indies) had also hit 3 centuries each in these tournaments.
- Fastest century – Virender Sehwag holds the record of fastest century in ICC Champions Trophy history. Sehwag had completed his century in 77 balls against England at Colombo (RPS) on 22nd September 2002.
- Conceding most no. of extras in an innings – India had conceded total 42 runs through extras against Kenya at Southampton on 11th September 2004. It is the most runs conceded by a team through extras in the ICC Champions Trophy history.
- Highest opening (1st wicket) partnership – Once, Indian batsmen Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly had put up a 192 runs partnership for the opening (1st wicket) wicket against England at Colombo (RPS) on 22nd September 2002. It is the joint highest opening (1st wicket) partnership for any team in the ICC Champions Trophy history.
- Winning most no. of matches – Till date, India has won total 15 matches in the ICC Champions Trophy. It is the most no. of matches victory for a team in this tournament history.
