2018/19 Irani Trophy: Players And Umpires Wear Black Armbands In The Protest Of Pulwama Attack
The Pulwama terrorist attack has stunned the whole of India. Not only the Indians, but the whole world also have condemned on that incident. In the ongoing Irani Trophy, the on-field umpires and all the Vidarbha and Rest of India (ROI) cricketers have come to protest on that coward incident by wearing the black armbands.
On Thursday (14 February), a suicide bomber attacked with an explosive-laden vehicle into a CRPF bus in Pulwama district (Jammu and Kashmir). More than 40 soldiers have lost their lives, and many are critically injured. The Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out that attack.
The whole world has condemned on that coward incident. Many active and former Indian cricketers have also cried out over that incident and came out to support the Indian soldiers.
On the other hand, the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy champions Vidarbha is busy to play the 2018/19 Irani Cup against Rest of India (ROI) at Nagpur. On day four of the ongoing game, the Vidarbha cricketers have worn the black armbands to protest against the Pulwama attack. Meanwhile, the ROI batsmen Hanuma Vihari and Ajinkya Rahane also wore the black armbands for the morning session.
The on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Nandan have also worn the black armbands for the same reason.
The match status
Currently, the ROI side is strongly fighting against Vidarbha. Starting the day on their overnight score 102/2, Hanuma Vihari and the skipper Ajinkya Rahane have provided a brilliant partnership. On the fourth day, they added 173-runs in their third wicket partnership. In overall, they had the 229-run partnership for the third wicket. While Hanuma Vihari is batting on 145 runs, Ajinkya Rahane just lost his wicket on 87 runs. With the lead of 180 runs, ROI is batting on 275/3 till the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane.
Earlier, the ROI skipper Ajinkya Rahane decided to bat first after winning the toss on an opening day. In the first innings too, Hanuma Vihari (114) hit a century, and Mayank Agarwal scored the crucial 95 runs that helped ROI to score 330 runs.
In reply, Vidarbha managed 425 runs in their first innings with achieving the lead of 95 runs. The no.8 Vidarbha batsman Akshay Karnewar played a brilliant century knock of 102 runs. Also, Sanjay Raghunath (65), Ganesh Satish (48) and Akshay Wadkar (73) played the crucial innings at that time.
