On dishing out splendid performances in the recent past, Australia skipper believes their team is capable of performing in the world tournament. With 2019 World Cup scheduled in England, Finch addressed that they have done well in such quadrennial events.

The top-order batsman Finch has brought an end to his century drought by smashing 116 against Pakistan on Friday (March 22).

In the opening match of the five-match ODI series against Shoaib Malik-led side in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Australia has dropped the first blood while comprehensively winning the game by eight wickets.

While speaking to the media, Finch maintained the ODI series win 3-2 over India is enough to make the world to notice how Australia has improvement ahead of the multi-nation tournament.

Pertinently, Australia has made a strong comeback on winning three games consecutively against the Men in Blue.

2019 World Cup: Finch and Australia’s Finesse

With Finch expected to bat in the middle-order on Smith and Warner’s return. Finch himself is keen to gain momentum ahead of the 2019 World Cup.

“People no doubt have taken notice (of the India series win),” PTI quoted Finch as saying.

The 32-year-old Finch added irrespective of form, Australia has the history of coming good in mega ICC tourneys.

Soon after the win over Pakistan, Finch maintained Australia has all the potential to lay hands on the coveted 2019 World Cup title.

“Australia are probably never true underdogs in a world tournament. I think our record suggests that. Regardless of form, you go into the tournament (knowing) Australia have a great ability to play well in big tournaments,” PTI quoted Finch as saying.

In a bid to chase down the target of 281, Finch alongside Shaun Marsh has forged a partnership of 172 for the second wicket.

He added the faced that Kangaroos are underdogs. But at the same time, he insisted that Australia has done well in the recent past.

“(We are) slightly underdogs. But I think some people would have taken a bit more notice over the last couple of weeks,” Finch added.

Of late, the five-time World Cup winners struggled following the sanctions being laid over Steven Smith and David Warner.

The duo faced the public wrath in the wake up of a ball-tampering saga following the Cape Town Test in  March 2018.

As things augur well for Australia in the past couple of weeks, their top-order has been among runs.

Also, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Handscomb has impressed one and all to contribute for their team in patches, too.

Usman Khawaja is a top contender for the World Cup spot, following his two hundred and as many half-centuries. Australia’s selectors could find themselves in a tangle to select a 15-man squad for the much-awaited 2019 World Cup.
