Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Chandrakant Pandit has thrown support behind Kedar Jadhav to come good at the impending 2019 World Cup.

Moreover, Pandit maintained he has been always confident to see Jadhav making it to the top-flight cricket.

It’s pertinent to state that Pandit has coached Maharashtra Under-23 in the past when Jadhav was growing up as a cricketer.

With the tournament beginning of May 30, the ODI showpiece will host ten teams to wrestle against each other in the marquee event.

Pandit maintained Jadhav, who is known for troubling batsmen with his unusual action, believes Jadhav could be a very crucial either fifth or sixth spot for the Men in Blue.

“The good thing is that he has shown a cool temperament. In the middle-order he has the ability to win the game. A player like him would be ideal for 5/6 position,” PTI quoted PTI as saying.

Vidarbha coach Pandit has hailed Jadhav for been immensely talented as a player. He added Jadhav has shown responsibility in the recent past. Pandit remarked that many think Jadhav has been a part-time bowler. But he has emerged as a successful bowler while representing Team India.

“He (Kedar) has definitely had a lot of talent and what he has proved in the last couple of seasons that he is a utility player and the best part is that Virat Kohli has used him for his all-round ability and not only for batting. You think he is a part-time bowler, but he has been successful,” Pandit added.

While witnessing the progress of Kedar, Pandit asserted he could be an important prospect if the team thinks about him in the playing XI. He further elaborated that Jadhav has done justice owing to his expectations.

“I am sure that they have a good option if they think about Kedar. And I have seen him from the beginning and I always found that he was talented. I am happy to see that he has shown tremendous progress, coming at this level. And proving himself, he has done justice to his talent,” he added.

In conclusion, Pandit reiterated India are favourites to lift the title. He summed up it with MS Dhoni’s presence of mind while donning the gloves behind the stumps. With Dhoni’s finishing prowess somewhat reviving, Pandit stated Dhoni will instil confidence among the youngsters owing to the pressure situations of the game.

“I’m sure that the confidence level which he (Dhoni) is going to provide young players who are going to bowl in this World Cup under pressure. He is also going to be a dangerous player in the slog overs,” Pandit concluded.

Meanwhile, India will begin their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa in Southampton.
