- Greg Chappell (Australia) – CHAPPELLO
The former controversial Indian cricket team coach Greg Chappell was one of the greatest Australian batsmen in the history. His Test batting average was 53.86 in 87 matches (7110 runs in 151 innings) while his ODI batting average was 40.18 in 74 matches (2331 runs in 72 innings). But once during his international career, a horrible season had run which he always wants to forget.
In the 1981-82 season, Greg had suffered seven ducks in the home international season, out of which four were consecutive. This incident gave him a new temporary nickname by the cricket fans and it was “CHAPPELLO”.
Due to raising confusion between the two brothers’ name (Ian Chappell and Greg Chappell), the scorers had used CHAPPELL I for Ian Chappell and CHAPPELL G for Greg Chappell. From that angle, Ian was known as CHAPPELLI and Greg was known as CHAPPELLG to his fans. But just for the horrible batting in the 1981-82 season, Greg’s nickname had transformed into CHAPPELLO for sometimes.
