When the fast bowler broke on to the scene, he was cited as the next big thing for India as he had raw pace and were unsettling domestic batsmen on a consistent basis. From his very first match, he showed the world that he could really bang the ball in hard, but the line and length were not that great which made him leak many runs.
The pace was never the problem with Umesh. He bowled the 4th fastest delivery by an Indian when he bowled a 152.2km/hr delivery during an ODI series in Sri Lanka.
