Sir Curtly Ambrose – West Indies (vs Australia at Perth on 3rd February 1997)

Sir Curtly Ambrose was one of the famous furious West Indian fast bowlers at ’90s. But once he was involved in a run-out which at best was due to his callousness. It was the 5th and final Test match of a five-match series between Australia vs West Indies at Perth in 1997. After Australia was bundled out for 243 runs in their first innings on day 1, West Indies easily crossed that runs and were looking to put a good lead on the board.

Sir Curtly Ambrose was on strike at 15 runs while West Indies was 384/9 and Ambrose was facing Australian leg-spinner, Shane Warne, when that hilarious dismissal happened. The left-handed batsman Ambrose wanted to play that ball but failed and the ball went into the air after it hit on Ambrose’s pad.

Australian wicket-keeper Ian Healy grabbed a ball and threw it to the striker’s end. The ball hit the stumps while Ambrose was still slightly outside the crease, even though he had enough time to reach the crease. Lack of concentration cost that wicket and by hence West Indies innings came to end at 384 runs on day 3.

The Caribbean team, though, won that match by 10 wickets but lost the series by 3-2.

Daniel Vettori – New Zealand (vs England at Manchester on 24th May 2008)

Former New Zealand bowling allrounder Daniel Vettori was once involved in the laziest run-out. It was the 2nd Test match of 3-Test match series between England vs New Zealand at Manchester in 2008. On day 2 of the match, Daniel Vettori gifted his wicket. Vettori was facing English bowler Stuart Broad when New Zealand was at 249/5.

Vettori played that ball towards the square-leg fielder and ran for 2 runs. He was quick enough to reach the crease but he didn’t ground his bat while English wicket-keeper hit the stumps. As a result, Vettori was dismissed at just 1 run and New Zealand was at 250/6.

Inzamam-ul-Haq – Pakistan (vs England at Faisalabad on 21st November 2005)

Former Pakistan batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq had a serious problem in the running between the wickets where he was dismissed a lot of time in his international career. But it was a rare dismissal as, in this case, there was no issue in the running between the wickets.

It was day 2 of the 2nd Test match of 3 match series between Pakistan and England at Faisalabad in late 2005. Inzamam was on strike at 109 runs and facing England pacer Steve Harmison. Inzamam played the full toss ball straight to the bowler which Harmison picked up successfully and immediately threw that to the striker’s end. It was the tough decision for the third umpire too but it was clear that Inzamam was not in the crease properly.

Finally, the third umpire gave that decision as out and Inzamam walked back to the pavilion after scoring a magnificent century. However, Inzamam could have easily entered the crease properly but he took his wicket for granted.

Umar Amin – Pakistan (vs Bangladesh at Dambulla on 21st June 2010)

It was the match between Bangladesh and Pakistan at Dambulla in the round-robin stage of Asia Cup 2010. Pakistan’s left-handed batsman Umar Amin was well set on the crease before his casual dismissal. Amin was facing Bangladesh spinner Mahmudullah as Amin took a single after stroking that ball to the long-off. After fielder threw that ball from the long-off, Mahmudullah picked that up and immediately dislodged the stumps.

However, the field umpire was not sure about that dismissal but the replays showed that his bat was not in the crease at the time when bails were dislodged while his both of legs were clearly outside the crease. It was just a throwaway of a wicket from the batsman.

Virender Sehwag – India (vs Sri Lanka at Visakhapatnam on Feb 17th, 2007)

Once, former Indian explosive opener Virender Sehwag was involved in the laziest run-out which may come as a shock to Indian fans. It was fourth and final ODI of a 4 match series between India and Sri Lanka at Visakhapatnam on 17th February 2007. India were chasing 260 runs in 47 overs; Sehwag started very well as he played 46 run knock in 44 balls.

During that run-out, Sehwag was facing Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga. Sehwag smashed that ball to the third man and ran for a single. But just before he reached the non-striker’s end, he took things casually and started walking towards the crease instead of running. He could have easily reached the crease even by walking but Sehwag failed it in that way too.

Sri Lankan wicket-keeper observed that and threw the ball to the non-striker end wicket which hit successfully. Even though, Sourav Ganguly shouted “Viru! Viru!” from the striker’s end but that was very late.
