29th October 2008, Gautam Gambhir vs Shane Watson at Delhi
It was the 3rd Test between India vs Australia of 4-Test match series in 2008 (Border-Gavaskar Trophy) at Delhi. The match was memorable for Indian team because it was the last Test for Anil Kumble while it was the last international series for Sourav Ganguly who took the retirement after 4th Test.
On Day 1 of the Delhi Test, Australian bowler Shane Watson was continuously sledging to Indian opener Gautam Gambhir. In reply, Gambhir elbowed Watson on the pitch while returning for the second run.
Gambhir was charged with Level 2 offence for not conducting play “within the spirit of the game as well as within the laws of cricket” while Watson was charged with Level 1 offence under the same section. Due to that punishment, Gambhir was banned for one Test because it was his second such offence in the last 12 months.
