4. Asanka Gurusinha (Sri Lanka – Wills World Cup 1996)
Asanka Gurusinha was one of the heroes of Sri Lankan cricket in the 1996 World winning campaign. In the Wills WC 1996, he was the second most runs scorer (307 runs in 6 matches) for the Sri Lankan team and 6th most runs scorer among all batsmen. The left-handed batsman hit three half-centuries in that tournament including 65 runs knock against Australia in the final.
Asanka had featured 41 Tests and 147 ODIs for Sri Lanka between 1985 and 1996. At the age of 19, he made debut for Sri Lanka in international cricket while he played his last international match at the age of 30. However, he could have easily prolonged his international career but he took retirement quite prematurely after refusing to return home for training from a season of club cricket in Melbourne. He established himself as a good no.3 batsman for Sri Lanka.
