Recently, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir claimed that the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly built up the match winners, which was the big reason for the success of the former Indian World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni. Gambhir also added that Dhoni wasn’t successful to produce such kind of match winners during his leadership tenure. However, the former Indian cricketer and Gambhir’s former Delhi teammate Aakash Chopra doesn’t support Gambhir’s view on Dhoni.
Aakash Chopra supports Gautam Gambhir for his view on the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly. Talking about that, Chopra also pointed out that Ganguly took the captaincy role when the Indian team was going through the darkest phase. According to Chopra, captain Ganguly’s work for the Indian team was absolutely fantastic.
Chopra told on his YouTube channel, “He is absolutely right that Sourav Ganguly gave a lot of match-winners to India. Dada even took over captaincy when cricket was in difficulty due to the black clouds of match-fixing hovering over it and the public’s belief lost. From that situation to develop a team that went abroad and won, the eye for talent was absolutely fantastic.”
I feel the team that Virat Kohli got was assembled with great love by MS Dhoni: Aakash Chopra
However, Chopra believes that the former Indian captain MS Dhoni also had a very difficult job which he handled very efficiently. The former Indian cricketer further added that the present Indian captain Virat Kohli‘s successful Indian team was the result of Dhoni’s leadership.
Chopra added, “In my opinion, Dhoni’s task was very difficult and a person like Dhoni was only required there, who could manage the team tactically with care and also manage the transition. According to me, it is a wrong comparison and it is a slightly incorrect outcome as well. I personally don’t agree with the opinion, I feel the team that Kohli got was assembled with great love by MS Dhoni.”
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India achieved huge success in international cricket, including winning the ICC World T20 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and ICC Champions Trophy 2013. He is the first captain to win three different ICC tournaments.
