Aakash Chopra Gives His Opinion About The India-Pakistan World Cup Match
Many Indians are protesting against the India-Pakistan match in the upcoming World Cup. However, the former Indian Test specialist opener Aakash Chopra believes that India should play that match.
England and Wales will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30 May to 14 July. According to the World Cup schedule, India and Pakistan will meet on 16 June at Old Trafford (Manchester).
However, since the Pulwama terror attack, many Indians have called for the boycott the India-Pakistan game in the upcoming World Cup. On 14 February, a suicide bomber attacked with an explosive-laden vehicle into a CRPF bus in Pulwama district (Jammu and Kashmir). More than 40 soldiers have lost their lives, and many are critically injured. The Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed carried out that attack.
Since that incident, many Indians have protested against Pakistan. Demanding to boycott every relationship with Pakistan, many Indians are now talking the same thing for the upcoming World Cup match.
However, Aakash Chopra has a different opinion. Though he is also disheartened on the Pulwama terror attack incident, he believes that it is not the right time to discuss the India-Pakistan cricket match.
He told India Today, “It’s a question whether India should be playing against Pakistan in the World Cup or not. Do we need to answer it now? The wounds of the attack are very fresh. What has happened in Pulwama has hurt all of us. We are all pained and saddened. We will always make decisions based on emotions. But do we need to make that decision right now? I don’t think we are obliged to make that decision today.”
All progressed nations in the world don’t mix politics with sport
Aakash Chopra further added that politics shouldn’t be mixed with sports.
He added, “All progressed nations in the world don’t mix politics with sport. They don’t use sports as a vehicle to push their political agenda. I firmly believe India is a first-world country and not a third-world country. We are not a regressive nation in any way. We are a proud nation that actually is mature enough to distinguish between the two.”
Aakash Chopra desperately wants India to beat Pakistan in the World Cup
Since January 2013, India and Pakistan haven’t played any bilateral series in international cricket. At present, they only meet in the ICC or ACC tournaments. Aakash Chopra believes that India’s World Cup victory will be worthful if they beat Pakistan in the competition.
He said, “We are already not playing bilateral cricket with them. You want to be the world champions. You want to be the best. What will be the worth of that World Cup trophy if you haven’t beaten Pakistan along the way?”
India has never lost against Pakistan in the cricket World Cup history. They have met six times in the World Cup, and India won all the matches.
