Aakash Chopra Hilariously Trolls Herschelle Gibbs During India-South Africa World Cup Match
Former Indian batsman turned commentator Aakash Chopra is one of the renowned voices on television. He is often seen sharing his expertise on the game and is a regular voice behind the mic during India matches. He is very much active on social media and is often seen engaging with his fans.
During the India-South Africa tie on Wednesday, however, he took social media to troll former South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs, who tweeted that South Africa will need a score of 300+ against India. Chopra opined that SA might need to bat twice to score 300+.

After winning the toss, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis had opted to bat first for the first time in the tournament. In the previous two matches, he had opted to bowl first and South Africa lost both the matches.
As Chopra had indicated, South Africa did not have a great start as both their openers were back in the pavilion inside first six overs. At one stage, there were struggling to get to a score of 200 but contributions from lower order saw South Africa score 227/9 and put up a competitive total on a tough batting track.
India, like South Africa, suffered jitters at the start but Rohit Sharma stayed at the crease till the end and scored a magnificent century to see India go past the winning total.
The defeat against India was South Africa’s third straight loss in the tournament and they now have to win six out of their six remaining matches to be in contention to qualify for semi-finals. South Africa had lost the opening game of the tournament to England on May 30th. Later, they also suffered a defeat against Bangladesh, who sort of pulled off an upset.
South Africa’s case has not been helped with injuries to players like Dale Steyn and Lungi Ngidi. The former has been ruled out of the tournament while the latter will spend around one week on the bench due to a hamstring issue that he suffered against Bangladesh.
The Faf du Plessis-led side now faces West Indies in its next contest on Sunday, the same day when India will take on Australia. A defeat against West Indies can very much mark an end to SA’s journey in World Cup 2019.
