Aakash Chopra Reveals His Test Team Of The Last Decade

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra not only remains busy in advice for the cricketers as a commentator, but he also tries to follow the latest trends. On Thursday (2nd January 2020), he revealed his Test team of the last decade.

The 2010s was the entertaining decade in cricket. We have seen many talents in this decade. While some of the star cricketers already retired, some of them are continuously roaring in Test cricket, and some have just started their Test careers in impressive ways. Some top quality Test players amazed the cricket fans consistently in the last decade. While the time is moving on, many cricket experts and even fans have recently revealed their best teams of the last decade. Similarly, Aakash Chopra has also revealed his Test team of the 2010s.

Aakash Chopra selected only two Indians

In his Test team of the last decade, Aakash Chopra has selected four English players, two Indian cricketers, two Australian cricketers, and one each from South Africa, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. Also, he added another former South African star cricketer in his 12th man squad. In his playing XI, two players already retired from the Test cricket.

Aakash Chopra’s top five choices were the top five most Test run-scorers in the last decade. Talking about the opening batting, he chose the rival openers, David Warner (Australia) and Sir Alastair Cook (England). English Test captain Joe Root is in the third position while Indian captain Virat Kohli was Chopra’s next choice. Former Aussie captain Steven Smith, who stunned with his unstoppable batting performances in the Ashes 2019 in England, is also in Aakash Chopra’s squad.

Former no.1-ranked Test all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh), who is currently facing suspension, is the lone all-rounder in Aakash Chopra’s squad.

The former Indian opener chose New Zealand cricketer BJ Watling as the wicketkeeper in his Test team of the decade. After Virat Kohli, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the only other Indian in this Test team.

Later, Aakash Chopra named three pacers, and these are former South African Test cricketer Dale Steyn and English pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

Finally, Aakash Chopra also named AB de Villiers, the former South African captain, as the 12th man of his Test team of the last decade.
