AAP Claims Gautam Gambhir has Two Voter IDs, Files Criminal Complaint
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lodged a criminal complaint after alleging that former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, who recently started off his political innings with Bharatiya Jantiya Party (BPJ) as an East Delhi candidate, is figured twice in the electoral rolls. Thus, the party has filed a criminal complaint against the veteran cricketer at Tis Hazari Court.
Pertinently, Gambhir’s rival Atishi, who’s AAP’s East Delhi candidate has asked for an instant disqualification of Gambhir as a candidate.
“We have filed a criminal complaint in Tis Hazari Court against Gambhir,” PTI quoted Atishi as saying.
Atishi alleged that Gambhir has access to two different vote IDs owing to the electoral rolls of Karol Bagh and Rajendra Nagar respectively.
Pertinently, such offence could lead to a maximum of one-year imprisonment.
Well, the esteemed court will this matter on Wednesday (May 1 ).
Former opening batsman had recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in December 2018.
“Will the Election Commission remain silent? How can a person with two voter IDs contest polls?,” AAP leader Sanjay Singh maintained in a tweet.

On the other side, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also took to Twitter to take a jibe on Gambhir.
“Voters should not waste their vote on someone who will get disqualified soon (sic),” Kejriwal tweeted.

In response, Gambhir has termed the allegations laid from AAP as baseless.
“First they make allegations, then go to court and then they apologise,” PTI quoted Gambhir as saying.
The aggressive opener has played a quintessential role for India at home and away conditions during his professional career.
The 37-year-old Gambhir had played a significant role in India’s two World Cup victories. He has featured in 147 ODIs, 58 Tests and 37 T20 Internationals for India between 2004 and 2016.
However, he had featured in the IPL previously in 2018 when he led Delhi Daredevils (DD) now read as Delhi Capitals (DC).
