AB de Villiers bagged Man of the Match award for record 22nd time as Royal Challengers Bangalore put up a stellar performance with both bat and ball in IPL 2020 as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 82 runs. AB de Villiers remained unbeaten on 73 off only 33 balls which included five fours and six sixes.
AB de Villiers also won the prestigious Man of the Match award for the 22nd time in IPL, which is the most by any player irrespective of being a batsman or bowler. He surpassed Chris Gayle, who had won 21 MOM awards. Stalwarts like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Shane Watson and David Warner are also in the list trailing the South African batsman and the Jamaican born West Indies batsman.
RCB Beat KKR In A Lopsided Match
RCB beat KKR in a lopsided match which saw AB de Villiers scoring his 3rd fifty in seven matches and KKR managing only 112/9 in reply to RCB’s 194/2. None of KKR batsmen could reach 20, apart from Shubman Gill who was unfortunate to be run out after being set at 34. KKR were cruising at 51/1 in the 8th over but lost eight wickets for only 61 runs in as many as 12 overs.
Andre Russell was expensive in bowling conceding 51 runs in four overs while Prasidh Krishna conceded 42 runs. For RCB, each bowler picked up at least one wicket, and none conceded more than 25 runs. Chris Morris returned with figures of 2/17 in four overs while Washington Sundar had figures of 2/20. Yuzvendra Chahal was miserly conceding only 12 runs.
RCB Now Is 3rd With 10 Points And KKR 4th With Eight Points
Tom Banton playing his debut match failed while Andre Russell had an off day with both bat and ball. Rahul Tripathi scored slowly and raised a few eyebrows as he came at no. 7 in the batting order. Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik didn’t even score 10 runs.
With this win, RCB now occupies 3rd spot with 10 points while KKR are at 4th spot with eight points. RCB have won five and lost two and are trailing behind MI and DC while KKR have won four and lost three.
RCB face KXIP next in the return leg in 15th October while KKR will face Mumbai Indians the following day. Both RCB and KKR lost their matches against the opponents in the first match.
